There are quite a lot of smug people on this thread but let’s see how smug they are if we’re still as bad next season and we get back to the general malaise we were after losing 4-0 at Palace. This thread will be amusing to read then.

Leave Pun alone. Grow a pair.

How in the world is a reference to a kangaroo being spun into a racist slur ?! 🤣

Robb, you are crying shedloads tonight!

Beautiful 😍

Robbsie filters me for correcting his bull$hit on Biden / Trump. So he can’t see what I said.

Robb, as you well know, has been anti ETH and always will be because Poch didn’t get the job first time round. You have been here long enough to know how his mind works.

From everything that’s being said it doesn’t sound like the coach with have massive influence on recruitment. That’s a good thing when it comes to making individual signings, however, it remains to be seen if it’s a good thing when it comes to the actual recruitment policy. If coaches are asking for experience and the club only want children, that’s not necessarily a good thing. Look at Chelsea.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Proof of the pudding will be our first signings, it will give us a sign of their transfer strategy. Let's hope we have ditched the scatter gun!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not really, the order of the signings aren’t indicative of transfer strategy.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Not the order but the profile of player, with the right skillets to play possession based football, etc..

Called this ages ago, as did a couple of other posters. There's no standout candidates to come in right now and the important football decision makers are either not yet in place (Ashworth), or barely through the door (Berrada, Wilcox).

We're not going to see the benefits of an improved sporting and recruitment operation until all the pieces of the puzzle are in place and they've had time to start implementing their ideas and strategy. It means any manager/coach will still be operating under a teething process.

It makes perfect sense to stick with ETH at least for the time being. Klopp & Arteta also had poor seasons let's not forget, so it's hardly far-fetched that we might see a better team performance with some better players coming in and deadwood going out.

If I were INEOS, I'd be calculating on getting more out of a manager that is clearly talented by having a better sporting operation running in the background and better facilities and organisational standards & culture throughout the club + (hopefully) better choices in the transfer market. And if the time comes that they decide ETH needs to be moved on, at least they'd be making the decision further into their tenure after getting the setup that they want in place meaning managerial changes shouldn't be such dramatic events full of upheaval and uncertainty but rather, should look to fit the mould of the club's playing style and player recruitment/profiling.

Kind of, but even then I think we’ll need to wait a few seasons to get a proper understanding of the recruitment strategy. We’re not exactly in the strongest position when it comes to attracting the players we want.

I’m thinking more along the lines of how it will look in a year or two, when they’ve had time to reshape the squad and there will be needs that the coach’s input should have some value.

I like Onana but what's his pass completion like? 80% or less? I suspect in a good midfield with better players than at Everton he'd flourish.

Yeah it did me too typing it, it’s a hard thing to articulate!

I’ll try again Ten Haag has it in him to be a great coach. To do that, he’s got to change from pragmatism and results to implementing the system he really wants to. To do that, he’s got to give up getting the occasional results and focus on building the squad more and start building the patterns now even if you haven’t got the players to do it.

That might mean you still finish eighth next year but also lose against a team like us in a final. It still might mean more progress has been made than this year though depending on how he plays it and what your squad turns in to.

The key decision then isn’t now, it’s are you recognising progress in the performances and give him a year or two off from the results.

Scapegoating the coach/manager when it's the club's fault for not sacking donkey defenders like lindelof and dalot, or knackered pension-cushioners that had zero chance of ever adapting to the EPL and let's not even start on the long term absence of a proper front line.

At least 5 regular players needed sacking before replacing the manager/coach should have even been considered.

It is understood that Manchester United's end-of-season review concluded Erik ten Hag deserves a chance to show what he is capable of within their new sporting structure.
United have made a series of front-office appointments since INEOS's minority takeover, including the expected arrival of Newcastle's Dan Ashworth as sporting director.
United's review considered Ten Hag's achievement in winning the FA Cup this season, as well as their Carabao Cup victory in his first campaign.
United are said to admire the dedication Ten Hag brings to his role, as well as the dignity and professionalism with which he has conducted himself.
Ten Hag's work developing young players, including Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo, was also a factor in Man Utd's decision, as were the extent of the injuries to hit their first team.
There is also a feeling at Old Trafford that the benefits of last summer's major signings - Rasmus Hojlund, Andre Onana and Mason Mount - is yet to be felt.

———

Well they got that last but right…
----------------------------------------------------------------------
All of that bullshiiit and yet they were talking to managers behind his back. Tuchel wasn’t on their wave length and no one else was as good as him available so we stuck with Erik.
---------------------------------------------------------------------

The Tuchel story was a journo taking a punt, that hasn’t panned out.
