Another decent partnership without going on. We've managed one century stand but another wicket falls just as Windies were probably starting to flag. Another chance for Jamie Smith to bat with the tail but hopefully he bats normally with Woakes.

One hit too many for Smith, gone for 36. 367-7.

England not really gone on with this, got bogged down since tea

Given how poor the Windies seamers and fielding has been, it's remarkable that we could still be all out for less than 400. Especially given how we were going until Duckett got out.

The spinners have done an excellent job for them especially Sinclair.

Strange ain't it....you should be pleased but this England team always seem to leave you feeling at bit....

Hmmnnnn, should it have been better.

I think this is something we need to get used to with Baz ball. Joe Root does not play the shot he got out to five years or so ago.

Good stuff from Woakes and Wood to take us above 400.

Have to say the windies were appalling today.... But fair play to us we scooped up the goodies

400 on the first day was excellent.. need to take early wickets and the games done and dusted

No reason they can't be 4 down by lunch

Forecast suggests it could get as hot as 29 degrees today. It could be a tough day in the field, Bashir should get a decent chance given we probably won't want Atkinson or Wood bowling long spells.

This is why for all the talk of bowlers I just can't see us winning in Australia or ever being a truly elite team until this is addressed.

416 should be a winning score here but in Australia or against India it leaves the game open.

Need to start being more ruthless and regularly hitting 450-500 when we have the opportunity to actually do so.

Very good batting conditions today so could be a lot harder to get WI out, we shall see.

Very flat wicket, long day in the field for England

WI have made a good start.

Wicket for Bashir. 53-1.

Change the ball, that was the problem

Windies have dug in well to be fair

Brathwaite gone for 48!

Oh that's a shocker of a shot... My prediction of four down at lunch may still be on

That's such a waste of time and energy those high bouncing balls

The short ball in test cricket feels like a ball that is getting a lot more wickets in the last year or so. May just be me thinking about the England and Australia series but I don't think many batters are playing it all that well. All the talk seems to be, he's not quick enough and the pitch isn't quick enough but more often than not, a slow pitch or a slower bowler gets success because batters might connect with a few but so many wickets seem to be mistiming a ball straight up. On a flat deck especially, if there isn't much pace, short ball theory seems to do the trick as batters want to feel bat on ball and want to score runs.

I think it's partly cause less and less batsman seem willing to leave a bouncer alone. They'll leave a couple and then try and hit one as it's the more aggressive approach, but if you just left them alone then eventually the bowlers would stop bowling them.

Nice to see the Windies digging in here and not just collapsing after those wickets just before lunch. Hopefully Stokes turns to himself shortly after this Wood spell rather than bowling a 10-12 over spell with Bashir at the other end to just keep his 3 seamers fresh for the new ball.

Well the short ball theory hasn't worked this time and they've scored pretty quickly.
