His record is really unbelievable, time to round it off on Sunday and secure his well deserved place in history
And shame on everyone calling for mass changes to the manager, the first 11 etc.
I think some of the points are absolutely fair. Some of the criticism has been ridiculous, entitled and over the top
However - there is also some justification in it.
Southgate tactically got off to a very bad start. Trent Alexander in midfield was an awful choice and it’s a poor time to experiment when you’re at a tournament
Foden on the left was a poor choice and there’s no doubt that at times he has been reactive with his subs and he was fortunate against Slovakia. You’re relying on a moment of genius in Extra Time
He’s also had another favourable draw. I don’t care what people say - when you meet the big teams is a factor. Had we not met France in the QF in 2022 he would have got us further.
So on balance - yep he’s Englands second most successful manager. Yes he deserves more respect. But no - I don’t think he is ever going to be the person that takes the next step with England
oh come off it, the team would have made the final withtout a manager when looking at tthe group and route to it
and probably have played much better football doing so.
Not sure what you mean by "even his subs" - these are not s*** players. These are players that most have been advocating to be given more game time than the players that are starting. I'll credit Southgate for doing something right yesterday - but is no surprise that we won in normal time because of doing what we were all crying out for him to do.
Those subs are what won him the game last night that he otherwise looked like losing.
if he manages to beat the first decent team we've come up against in Spain in a high pressure final i might give him some credit.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
We beat Slovakia who had already beaten Belgium and finished above them. We beat Switzerland who had drawn with Germany and beaten Italy. We beat Netherlands who drew with France.
Our easy route was against sides that beat or didn’t lose to the so called top nations.
The only side that has truly looked better than England so far is Spain, hands down they have been the team of the tournament - I said after the Croatia game, watching Yamal is like watching Rooney in 2004, it’s incredible.
If we beat Spain, I don’t think there is a stick left to beat us with - we will have beaten the side that unanimously people are calling the best at the tournament.
It’s not a league format, there is nothing jammy or bent about us not playing France or Germany or Ronaldo.
Also only beat Swizerland on pens who you managed to scrape a draw with over 120 mins The same Swiss side that managed a draw v a very shiete Scotish side
Forget that one?
Has anyone mentioned the woman's manager as if it us equal to this yet?

He’s won nothing yet
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Even if we don’t win - the blokes taken us to the latter stages of 3 comps now.
I was soo bored of England before Southgate - we had the team in the 00’s that were arguably more talented than this side - 2002 to 2006 vintage - but they just couldn’t win big games or more importantly penalty shoot outs.
Then we had 2008 - 2016, they say it’s darkest before dawn and they are not faaaaacking wrong - Wally with the Brolly failure to qualify - Rooney throwing a wobbly - Woy ball with Carroll - melting in Brazil whilst playing Woy ball - then losing to Iceland whilst playing Woy ball with a dash of Joe Hart marshmallow hands.
Since then:
Semi

Final
We’ve never had it so good and only Deschamps has a better record over the same time period - Southgate has eclipsed Dalic for me

You don’t have to qualify Scottish side with very shiete - it’s an absolute given - took Georgia one attempt to get out the group and Scotland are still virgins 12 tries later.
The Swiss were poor against Scotland but then improved greatly over the next 2 matches, drawing with hosts Germany and then completely outplaying and beating Italy. England had the measure of them though

He brings on Toney against Slovakia - whilst they are all marking him from the long throw - Jude has half a yard to pull off a worldie. In Extra time, Toney heads on to Kane.
Against Switzerland he brings on Toney, Trent and Palmer and their penalties were perfect.
Against the Netherlands he brings on Watkins - great goal in the 90th minute.
He has got his subs spot on so far
His man management and squad handling makes up for his tactical shortcomings, think he’s been absolutely superb at the former.

It’s like comparing test cricket to T20 - it’s still cricket but there is a big difference.
What Wiegmann (spelling) did with England was incredible - won the Euros and made the World Cup final. However, Englands women didn’t have the millstone round their necks of decades of underperformance, disappointment and penalty shootout heartache. Southgate picked a team up from the faaacking basement in 2016 and has got to 2 finals in 4 tournaments - you can’t whack it

Post game: Switzerland/Netherlands are shiete, football isn’t what it used to be, the standard has dropped.
Get it up yer you bitter bastirts - our 3rd tournament final whilst the Scots once again disappoint Del Amitri
Before the tourn i said i think Southgate missed a trick not taking AWB, and now this finals happening i really think we could have used him vs Yamal.

as limited as he is like Walker on the ball he would do a job vs Yamal.

Was thinking about this, this morning. One plus is turning inside against Trippier means Trippier can defend with his favoured foot. Guéhi in a back 3 should help.
Over on Englands right, Spain will have to be careful - if Nico Williams doesn’t track Walker then we could overload them.
Spain are going to have a lot of the ball - but I think England prefer that, we can play on the counter
