Not sure what you mean by "even his subs" - these are not s*** players. These are players that most have been advocating to be given more game time than the players that are starting. I'll credit Southgate for doing something right yesterday - but is no surprise that we won in normal time because of doing what we were all crying out for him to do.

Those subs are what won him the game last night that he otherwise looked like losing.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He brings on Toney against Slovakia - whilst they are all marking him from the long throw - Jude has half a yard to pull off a worldie. In Extra time, Toney heads on to Kane.

Against Switzerland he brings on Toney, Trent and Palmer and their penalties were perfect.

Against the Netherlands he brings on Watkins - great goal in the 90th minute.

He has got his subs spot on so far
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This is sandy level debating so my following comment is aimed at everyone else

Slovakia was luck - if he made the sub earlier it would not have been luck and we'd have won in normal time.

Switzerland was luck - no team can confidently bank on winning a shootout.

I think Rodri aside we are better than Spain in nearly every position. I’d rather have Bellingham, Saka, Foden etc over Yamal or Williams for this one game, even if Yamal will likely become the pick of the bunch in time.

Our form and tactics are letting down the individual qualities of this team, but if we play well we should win.

We didn’t play Holland we played the Netherlands. And it wasn’t luck, we dominated that first half and had the penalty been correctly not given, we’d have continued to press and scored anyway. We’d have won that game comfortably had Southgate not applied the handbrake at half time.

The old Penalty shootouts are luck theory - despite certain players being specialists and certain teams having incredible success - I suppose that’s just variance.

I don’t know, Kanes form has brought him down much closer to Morata level. Olmo is incredible, Yamal is incredible and Williams is close to incredible, but not quite there.

Spain have the edge, but it’s not a foregone conclusion - i think it’s 60/40 to Spain.

Euro 2004 it was 90/10 in favour of Portugal and Greece still prevailed

I don't see Spain as the clear favourites people are making out.

Yes, they've been the form team in this tournament, but England finally seem to have got themselves sorted positionally, they have better players and depth overall, and they have the experience at this stage of big tournaments that Spain don't.

Experience and individual quality are huge factors at this level, which makes England slight favourites for a game that on paper is very hard to call.

Bookies have Spain as favourites - so the general public is clearly thinking Spain are faves

Do you not shudder a little, I mean 12 attempts and you’ve still made a knockout, now England have 3 major tournament finals and a little star above our badge - you lot should add one of those when you do finally make it out of a group.

Also do you not see the age of this England side and think schitt, they are going to be around for a while?

Slovakia was very lucky. Swiss arguably edged it but the pens were not luck they were very well taken. Holland England were arguably the better side though that pen was an utter disgrace and very fortunate. So there has been a lot of luck involved, but it’s not all down to that, at times England have been good

As for England being around for a while, yes but they've had plenty of top teams and never won anything since 19oatcake.

They could well beat Spain, i don't think they will but only a fool would write them off. You live in hope this will be your time, I live in hope your countrymen are in tears again.

Another agonising so near yet so far story. Grown men weeping in the stands, pubs across the country full of depressed fans and parties across Scotland and Spain

English arrogance being humbled momentarily. It never lasts but it's a beautiful fleeting moment.

Christ, we really do live rent free in your heads - it’s like a Peterhead fan having some weird beef with Celtic.

It’s a shame that you lot cannae make it a real rivalry. Imagine if you’d done what the Georgians did, put some effort and skill into it and put on a show.

Instead all you have is your bitterness. Scottish footballs brightest moment was qualifying for the World Cup in 78 and England not, with Archie Gemill scoring ultimately a pointless goal - meant everything to you lot. As for “humbling” which idiots sang - “well really shake you up when we win the World Cup” only to lose to Peru and draw with Iran

posted on 11/7/24

because the players quality and easy side of the draw, hes not a good manager, if he wins he can go alongside di matteo.

Replays of 66 and memories of 78.

Long time before I was on this planet. Neither of us have seen England or Scotland win a thing.

We don't expect to and you guys do. That's the difference. Getting there is a victory for us, you lot slagged your whole team and manager off until the semi final because for reasons which can only be described as English arrogance you think you deserve success. Which makes it funnier you've never had any.

I am one of the few on here that hasn’t slagged Gareth and the team off and have backed them from the start. Why wouldn’t I? We have the German leagues top scorer, the Prem player of the year, the La liga player of the year who just keeps stepping up. We have Saka, Palmer, Eze, Toney, Watkins, Gordon. We left Rashford, Mount, Sancho, Grealish, Sterling at home - these are players that would walk into the teams of all but 3 or 4 sides at the tournament.

We have a manager that has got us to a final before, who never underestimates the opposition.

Expectations are high because our collection of players puts us in the worlds top 4 in terms of squads currently
