I don’t really watch the academy. Who are they touting at the next to break through?

Feels like we’ve pushed out luck with quality academy output recently with Greenwood, Garnacho and Mainoo. Obviously Greenwood ended up being a disappointment for non-footballing reasons, but that’s three huge talents produced by the academy on a short period of time.

Man U and Leeds is another one that i don't get.

It stems from the 70's when Leeds were good for a very short period of time.

It is now mostly one way as we don't really give a crap about Leeds.

Our rivalry with Liverpool is like Real with Barca.

If you'd asked my dad or grandad who our biggest rivals were then there wouldn't have been a seconds hesitation - Everton. The derby meant everything to them. It was the city bragging rights.

When I was young I got a little bit of anti-Utd sentiment from my dad, none from my grandad. I first heard about the busby babes from my grandad. He had, for want of a better term, a lot of northern pride. I heard him give my dad more sh*t for bringing the family up in the south of England than I ever heard him give Utd

That changed a little bit with dad's generation but a lot more with my generation (I'm late 40's for context). Perhaps other people have different experiences but from mine, it's a rivalry born of periods of football domination. And then arguably attached to more historic rationale.

This sounds about right. I can't see how some 30 year from Salford relates to the industrial revolution and shipping rivalry from circa 200 years ago.

Probably more realistic that Liverpool lorded it over their big north west rivals in 70s and 80s and Utd did the same in the 90s and early 2000s. This led to jealousy, hatred etc.
