Those Branthwaite stories aren't going away either.
Three CBs purchased would be a bit too much in some ways but perhaps it's a different set up ETH is going with eventually where we're strong and comfortable bringing the ball out from the back.

Perhaps the club have seen that Shaw can't really be trusted to play a full season so are thinking along these lines?
With Dalot, Yoro, De Ligt, Martinez, Branthwaite, Mazraoui as the back four options with support from Amass and Shaw (whilst he's still at the club) and Evans.
Perhaps that does look like we'd be stockpiling CBs but it'd put us in a good position for the next 5/6 years IMO and they'd all get plenty of game time.

We have signed a load of his former players and now the ETH cult on here believe it's a coincidence and De Ligt is a INEOS target.
You're all in complete denial and it's utterly hilarious. Of course ETH is very much behind these two deals with Bayern.

I don't see everything as black and white.
We've now signed 5 of his former players, 6 former Ajax players in total and also 3 Dutch players on top.
Doesn't take a detective to work out the link does it?
It wasn't even a debate on whether they are good enough. I have no real opinion on that and I hope they both come in and work wonders for us. My whole point was that this manager still has a lot more say on transfers than some of you think he does. Might be why he got a 1 year extension instead of a new 3 year deal which was originally rumoured.
If you want to believe De Ligt and Mazraoui had nothing to do with the manager then be my guest.

There is a world though were signings from Ajax/Netherlands aligns with what those above ETH want.
For the quoted £50m I think it's a good deal for De Ligt and Mazraoui. It'll hopefully improve us on the ball.

Do you worry you're trying to do too much in one window and compromising a bit on quality, which will affect you again in a couple of years? Or is it just the level you're at now that's dictating who you can get?
You've obviously improved the squad (hard not to), but I feel like if you make it back to a decent level then all of these signings, except probably Yolo, will need to be replaced in a couple of years.
It's a tough balancing act getting competitive vs building for the future and it'll be interesting to see how it shakes out.

I think this window was largely about a) bolstering the squad with young potential and depth both to refresh and hopefully to help avoid last season’s injury catastrophe, and b) providing ETH with options and players more suited to how he wants to play.
Yoro is obviously being earmarked as a future starter alongside Martinez. Lots of potential there.
De Ligt will be his competition and is five years younger than and an upgrade on Maguire/Lindelof as third choice CB. Depth signing.
Mazraoui is basically a straight squad place swap for AWB, but more suited to how ETH wants to play (much better going forwards) and able to cover LB. Another depth signing behind Dalot.
Zirkzee is a depth and option signing replacing Martial as the CF who can knit and feed. Again plenty of potential to develop.
I think we’re going to see a lot more of this from Ineos - less going after big names and form players, and more after potential and players who actually fit stylistically.
I’m quite pleased with de Ligt, zirkzee and Mazraoui. Yoro too should prove a great buy. If we could get rid of deadwood like Sancho and get a decent dm in, that would be a decent window imo
