Yes, but we do need to be ruthless. If Amorim is the man we could do without the complication of Ruud doing OK and there being a clamour for him to take the job.

This is happening far too fast for United to have opened talks with Amorim yesterday.
Must have been in the pipeline for a while, which is somewhat reassuring given the importance of getting this appointment right.

I'm willing to try anything at this point but bringing in Amorim does worry me in a number of ways because again we're going to have another manager moving from the dominant team in the league to one that is far from being that in another league and there's no guarantee how he plays at Sporting will translate to United and the Premier League where there's far more quality throughout the league.
If we're going to start building a squad in a certain way i.e. with a view to playing with a back three then I'm concerned for what it'll mean in the future if things go pear-shaped again because your choice of coaches will be more limited unless we just rip everything up completely and that's obviously going to set us back again.
If we could've got him in the summer then it makes the decision to stick with Ten Hag even more ridiculous than it already was and it means we've just wasted another transfer window when we could've made a start at building a squad more suited to Amorim.

Amorim is probably the most exciting appointment United could've made.
Truth is we're in an era where there's a serious lack of quality managers out there. Every name mentioned was a risk. That was true 2 years ago, it's true now.
Amorim at least seems to have the style of football, the energy and personality to get excited about.
He'll no doubt get the vast majority of the English footy ABU media on his back from day one, but he seems confident and jovial enough to knock it away.

Are you suggesting that if I, hypothetically, had declared that I were "done with" the new INEOS management on the basis that they didn't sack ETH at some point over the last 4-6 weeks, I might have cause to review that stance, since it's likely they have been actively working on his long-term replacement for some time?
Less tongue in cheek, how do you read this development in relation to your assessment (which I found pretty convincing) that ETH was effectively the interim man / INEOS were mainly focused on much higher level stuff / getting down to defining sporting philosophy and therefore identifying the long-term coach was likely for the future? Would you guess that the work of defining the game model (with its implications for recruitment as well as coaching) has organically reached its conclusion, or that circumstances forced them to expedite the process or even to make an educated guess about the kinds of qualities they wanted in the coach?
