I don't think he's clueless, but I think he needs time and probably help from others to spot things and react to them, which is fine game to game but in the tough games against the top teams you need to be able to really decisive
Just keep Southgate unless he's desperate to go
Hes a crap club manager so doubt he'd be quick to leave
While everyone also says "who did he beat"
I don't think he is any better or worse a manager if Rashford doesnt fack up a penalty he shouldn't have
Such fine margins but you could argue that we shouldn't have gotten to the point of pens with some better game management

I think as a manager he could have done a lot better in the final, but we also weren't the better team and I think we all would've taken it going to penalties (or at least ET)

I mean he’s not tactically clueless and he’s certainly better than most international managers out there.
He’s a good solid international manager that’s been unlucky in the finer details.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Agree with this apart from the unlucky bit. It's not like we had a load of injuries before the France game or summink.
The general consensus seems to be that he's an average manager but that we should keep him. Is that right though? Do we care so little about England we're just ambivalent about who's in charge? As long as he picks who most of us think we should and qualifies for the tournaments..
I dunno. Like I said, I'm not calling for him to be sacked. It's all just very underwhelming. I think if there were an obviously better candidate who'd take the job he'd be under pressure right now.
I’d say Kane one if the best in the world missing a pen is unlucky for him as was losing on pens last summer.
I mean look at any international manager and show me someone who’s genuinely top quality.
Yea of course if pep or Klopp wants the job go for it but let’s not just get rid for the sake of it.
I really don’t want us to go back to the hodgson or big Sam days
im still mad he didnt just pass it into the right corner

I've enjoyed this WC. Not the best but not the worst either. Some really good moments, topped of with the GOAT doing his thing and out shining Piers Morgan's rent boy.
Nothing will ever beat Italia 90'.

I think the France game is certainly bad luck, with Kane missing a pen and the ref being pretty poor. The Italy one you could argue there was more bad decision making that led us to losing that shootout, but I guess that's where I'm seeing some progress if we're shifting from questionable decisions to being a little unlucky.
I'm not happy with the 'unlucky manager' narrative. At some point you have to acknowledge his responsibility. Or at least put it on the whole team that they didn't do enough. Going to pens/relying on a pen to get a result means you didn't do enough in the rest of the game.
re: replacing Gareth. No, we shouldn't have whoever will take it. Which is what we have now tbf.
I agree with that to a point, but aside from some dodgy subs he was genuinely a bit unlucky against France whereas before it felt like he'd just been making strange decisions and failing upwards in spite of them.
I basically think everything he does in the lead up to match days is good, but on the day itself he often gets things wrong. I'm not sure who we could get that could combine the two elements cos international footy is a bit weird for managers
