I don't disagree, my point is largely about people who try this 'Careful what you wish for' argument about Wenger, when he was no longer getting them top four and it wasn't like 2005-2010ish when they had minimal transfer spends but played nice football with younger players.
-------------------------------------------------------
But part of the connotations of 'be careful what you wish for' isn't just about what Wenger was bringing to the table, it's do you trust the people who'll replace him to get it right?
While he was getting top 4 consistently that would've been my position if I was an Arsenal fan. It wasn't about him, it was about lack of trust in selecting his successor. But in a weird way I'd have been grateful Wenger gave me those years where the top 4 grip was lost so I knew it had to be done kinda thing.
I actually remember the exact game I thought maybe he should walk away for Arsenal's sake. Was the 0-3 defeat to City (in the league) after losing to them in the cup final
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The fact Wenger's replacements were poorly chosen does not mean it was right to keep him. Roman would have sacked him around 2006 tbh, and that sort of ruthlessness would have been preferable to keeping him on as long as they did when it had been clear for a long time he was no longer a top class manager. They should have got a replacement from a position of strength, when they were still a consistent top four proposition but a way of title contention.
I think Arsenal fans actually had every right to look at the situation 5-7 years ago with their super-expensive season tickets, and past-it manager, and without the soon-to-form big six and demand better.
They are screwed due to the malaise of inaction, not because they sacked him.
----------------------------------------------------------
I dunno man. I get the argument don't get me wrong but their situation was unique. Wenger wasn't a top manager anymore but he wasn't past it (IMO), and their squad was decent but extremely technical - the wrong type of appointment would've completely bombed. Sympathize with the expensive tickets but that was an owner problem, evident today with their tickets still being extortionate without CL football in 5 years.
If Roman was their owner yeah get rid, because we all know his intentions are aligned with the fans & he's surrounded by knowledgeable advisers, even if we don't agree with his decisions. Arsenal fans didn't have that luxury.
For me it would've been about having no regrets. Wenger at the time he did leave left no regrets about sacking him, do it even a good 4-5 years earlier with a similar level of descent (entirely plausible in my mind) they'd have been nothing but regret.
Btw if that's you NPE, sounds like you lol, welcome back
I think once Werner has got used to the ball bouncing off the back of Lukakus head, that partnership is going to thrive.Genius tactic.

Last reply from me as I don't want to go bogged down in the weeds on facking Arsenal lol...
But the season tickets were a stadium problem, which was a decision and pledge made wayyy before Kroenke owned the club. Moving to the Emirates was a decision made back during a position of strength for them in the early 2000s.
It is weirdly an example of what I mean - clubs should make proactive decisions from a position of strength. Letting Wenger wilt and fade with Arsenal without the top four foundations a successor would need was frankly little more than neglect from the club.
They made the wrong type of appointment, five years too late, with a diminished but expensive squad.
A crap appointment when they still had Fabregas, Nasri, RVP, Ramsey, Cazorla, Sanchez etc would have been more palatable because other managers would be attracted to the role even if Wenger's immediate successor bombed. They are stuck with Lego Man now.
Wait forgot one thing - Wenger was the human shield for the Kroenke's by the end. The idea of wanting him to stick around as you don't trust the competency of the owners is mistaken, because he was their enabler in chief.
Mutually beneficial - Kroenke's used him a shield from criticism, and Wenger used them for a paycheck as nearly any other owner would have sacked that doddery old fool around 2015 tops.
Chalobah the biggest W from this season so far.
Ok fair play on the tickets, didn't know that, but it still circles back to the owner once you talk about quality of personnel. Demanding to have the best players/managers reflecting the prices is reasonable, doesn't mean the owner gives af about that in a industry where the consumers gunna pay no matter what sh!t you put out there - and they have one of those. It sucks but as a fan you analysis the hand dealt, not the reality of the situation you deserve (that applies to the Wenger being Kroenke's shield point too).
It was a nasty catch 22. Do you get f***ed over while on top which gives the perception Wenger truly was the shield all along? Or do you get f***ed over once it's become very apparent the board as well as Wenger don't have the will or competence respectively? I go with option 2 cos at least if nothing else it leaves no doubt in the mind about where the real problems lie. These were the people that at the time of Wenger's departure zoned in on three different assistant managers for the job. They weren't top 4 anymore but seriously?
Anyway like you say it's Arsenal, who cares

For me I would rather City win even though they crushed us last weekend.
I still think they have a greater capacity to drop points.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Nah rather Liverpool win. They’re at home so it would be a massive result for City. Liverpool already dropping points they shouldn’t, they will definitely drop more as the season goes on and their lack of depth starts to hurt them.
City’s depth makes them almost impossible to catch if they get even a small points gap.

At this time Liverpool remain the only unbeaten team in the league. If they're dropping points they shouldn't then what are Chelsea and City dropping? Points they should?
Yeah okay mate we’ll ignore the draws against a promoted team and a team with 10 men for half a game. Would be ridiculous to expect Liverpool to win those games am I right
We’ll also ignore that you played 4 of the bottom 6 in addition to those other two games. Yeah you’re flying
No we're not flying. Just saying that others have and are dropping more points than us so far, and if we avoid defeat against City it won't look good for the competition.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Just to clarify I mean the speed of our attacking play. For example the speed of the chances we created, good chances through quick, decisive and incisive play.
Again, to repeat myself it seems to have gone unnoticed how well Kova played first half. His passing was breathtakingly good.
"We have talks here before the season. Everybody tells me that we go back to English football and we will not whistle soft touches, and it depends how the game goes’.
"Then we are here in the middle of London, it’s raining, it’s some 40 minutes and we have an intensive match, and it’s not even after this situation that there is a goal. There is a chance, a second chance, there is a third cross. The third cross is a goal and we go back. This is not the decisive action for this goal.
"So no, for this situation I have absolutely zero understanding of why we go back to this situation and take a goal away."
