Little hard to judge De Zerbi at Brighton. Could argue he inherited Potter's work and coasted on it but equally you could argue his issues with injuries meant you never got to see what he was working on.

I don't really associate a De Zerbi team controlling football matches either, a lot of Brighton games are chaotic and end to end.
However if that's our 4 man shortlist, then I'd take him over the others.
--------------------------------------------------
He's an interesting coach tactically speaking. It's a little Bielsa like, short passing at a high tempo but quick counters if the runners go. One thing I've heard was interesting at Brighton, which distinguishes him from others who strive for similar football, is how flexible he is with the D-line. He's not Ange, he isn't afraid to drop it quite deep so long as the eventual counter happens - it's like Sarri's pressing bait idea taken to an extreme.
I do think the football might be decent if we appointed him. It won't help him long term, but it's something he's got going for him (imo) that others don't.

The injuries and losing players like Caicedo and McAllister last summer were obviously an issue.
But I'm still not sure that can fully justify De Zerbi's Brighton winning only 1 in their last 10 PL games and winning only 7 of their last 32 PL games.
That's really poor and Brighton may well have got relegated if they hadn't started the opening months of the season well.
It also makes you question why Chelsea feel that is any kind of upgrade on what we had with Poch. On the face of it that looks like a significant downgrade.
It also makes me question if Egbhali and co are prioritising success on the pitch or just want a manager who can improve players so we can make big profit as a selling club essentially. Top four be damned.
That would be the cynical view but it's not without existing evidence. Boehly was definitely all about wanting success on the pitch but it's clear that he's been massively sidelined by Clearlake.

Out of all the realistic choices I’d just go for Xavi in the vein hope he might be able to replicate the Barca academy structure / football here

Mick McMarthy

🚨 🤯 Chelsea could sign the 12th person from Brighton under new ownership.
🔷 Roberto De Zerbi
🔷 Graham Potter
🔷 Billy Reid

🔷 Ben Roberts
🔷 Kyle McCauley
🔷 Paul Winstanley
🔷 Robert Sánchez
🔷 Marc Cucurella
🔷 Moisés Caicedo
🔷 Sam Jewell
Not sure why the club have narrowed it down to this average pool of managers. And I mean no disrespect to the likes of McKenna with his back to back promotions but this shortlist of managers isn't up to the standard of what I'd expect from a Chelsea side wanting to win PL and CL titles again.
There are some top class young managers out there like Simone Inzaghi, Amorim and Thiago Motta who Juve are about to snap up. So why aren't we being linked with this calibre of manager that I'd expect a club of our stature to be linked with ?
Those are A tier managers. We're being linked with B and C tier managers here if that shortlist is to be believed. What are we expecting from this lesser calibre of manager ? Definitely not title wins.
Simeone Inzaghi must have a thing about not managing outside of Italy, because the way he's overlooked by clubs every time there's a vacancy can't be on purpose.
He really should be a hot property at this point, it's two clubs now where he's squeezed blood out of a stone.

I agree with you to some extent. I think Amorim sounds exciting. But the others you mention are new to management too, and are just as likely as McKenna to be a flash in the pan. Can you imagine what we’d all be saying if Chelsea were considering appointing Kompany? He’s been relegated from the PL - that was his only managerial experience at the highest level. Sometimes perhaps you need to take a risk if you believe in someone.

Hmm Inzaghi definitely not new to management. He's been a manager since 2016 winning multiple trophies and getting Inter to a CL Final only to get beaten by Pep's best City side when they won the treble.
If I had my say Inzaghi would be my number 1 choice to be next Chelsea manager by a country mile.
