Mirror - Chelsea sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley - who have led the search - have identified Maresca as their ideal man for the job, whereas owners Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital are fully invested in the idea of appointing Roberto De Zerbi.

Honestly are we really going for maresca?
I thought the mckenna links were daft

What possible reason do we have to have maresca as manager ? Yes he won the championship but he had a Premier league squad his time at Parma was awful

It's a complete mess if this goes ahead

Maresca will be the worst appointment in our history

🗣️ @SkyKaveh: “What Chelsea want is someone who is happy being a head coach and is happy working in the structure that they have set up. They're not interested in somebody who wants to wield power as an old-school manager.”

🗣️ @SkyKaveh: “The Chelsea owners feel they have built that modern structure and the new coach is the final piece of the jigsaw who they hope is there for the best part of the next decade. The new Chelsea head coach will sign a contract longer than the 2-year deal Pochettino had”

🗣️ @SkyKaveh: “A lot of senior members at Chelsea are impressed with the job Thomas Frank has done at Brentford having established them as a Premier League side on a smaller budget. They also like his personality and the way that he carries himself as a good communicator. He's also more adaptable when it comes to style of play. He's not as dogmatic as someone like Enzo Maresca.”

If that's true then it only exacerbates my fears that these two sporting directors aren't very good at all. How could Maresca be your ideal man ffs ? He's an unproven Championship manager who had the highest ever earners in Championship history. Not exactly plucky underdogs lol.

If these Sporting directors had an ounce of ambition then why not get Amorim ? Polls show that Amorim is way out in front in terms of being wanted by fans.

Bloody Maresca when you could have got the excellent Amorim !!! Fck off.

Enzo Maresca is being seriously considered by Chelsea. The Blues are aware he would be an “underwhelming” appointment for the fans but they “don’t seem to care.” (via @TEAMtalk)

Looks like the sporting directors are the issue here. Clearly want a manager they can wield complete control over.

Not surprising that we're after such low profile names - not many top-level, self respecting managers would accept such a role.

He won't be here 10 months, maybe not even 10 weeks if the players don't turn up for him lol.

What a clown show circus. I still think it's De Zerbi though so we'll all feel grateful that they haven't appointed a Championship manager.

Literally everything they supposedly want in a manager (coach, no say in transfers, work with other areas in tandem and bend over essentially, pl proven) they had with Potter and they still binned him in under a year lol

So this is all BS

Things were looking really positive at the end of the season. Coming of a winning run, finishing top 6, getting into the EL and most of our injured players were returning

Fast forwad 2 weeks later, we sack our manager, we get kicked out of the EL and we're scouting the championship for our next manager. Only at Chelsea.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Can't think of another club that can finish a season on a high like we did with so much positivity going into the next season only for everything to go to shlt within a few days. Only here. We love shooting ourselves in the foot regardless of ownership it seems.

Exclusive: Roberto De Zerbi has emerged as a surprise candidate for the manager’s job at Manchester United should the club decide to sack Erik Ten Hag. @MailSport has learned that United sounded out De Zerbi via intermediaries last week.

The problem imo with the structure Boehley- Clearlake want to implement is that they want the business/ accounting aspect to direct the decision making, taking priority over the footballing based reasoning.

Its all about first taking advantage of the opportunities that trading within the clubs economy provides, opposed to building a side that is 1st focussed on competing at an elite level allowing a manager to build his squad over 2/3 seasons.

Personally i think this gives us an insight as to what type of club they are intending to create.

As they see the trading of footballers as key to the clubs business finance model.

This view would seem to explain why Poch was not prepared to continue and why the club are looking at 2nd tier managers.

I think we are now at a point that no top tier manager will be attracted to the Chelsea- Boehley Clearlake project as it currently stands.

I think that when they bought the club, they didnt expect to be driving this strategy in this way with 2nd tier managers, but they did so much damage in the first 12 months by their abysmal reading of the game and what it requires to maintain an elite level competitive edge.

Basically they are doubling down on their poor decision making due to the huge investment they have made and have in fact devalued!
