How was that not a red for Utd ??? Just watching replays my mind hasn't changed. VAR looked at that and decided it's not a red. How ????
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It’s a straight red and VAR should’ve told the ref it needed to be. He targeted Palmers knee while diving in. There’s no world where that isn’t a red card offense. They blew it massively.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yup it was a disgusting tackle and could have seriously injured Palmer. Under current rules that's a straight red. No two ways about it.
The club should demand that those Var officials issue a statement describing exactly why they didn't think it was a red card. We need to know for clarification at very least.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We already have that on twitter
The referee issued a yellow card to Martinez for a challenge on Palmer. VAR checked for a potential red card and confirmed the referee’s call of no red card, deeming that it was a reckless challenge and not serious foul play

Have the rules changed again as thought reckless if it was a danger to the player used to he a red?

Should've been a red as he had no intention of playing the ball. Thankfully it was very late in the game so it didn't affect the end result.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It didn't affect the result but it easily could have done as Utd finished the game with one more player than they should have been allowed to.
VAR officials deemed it a yellow when the letter of the law says that should be a red and I think we're all entitled to an actual explanation from them as to exactly why so we can all have clarity.
Otherwise are they saying that some knee high challenges are not red card offences? We need to know surely as that's not my understanding of the rules. What are the rules exactly then ? Exact clarification is required.

Surely the rules are in place to protect player safety right? It therefore makes no difference if it was serious foul play or recklessness. It might make a difference to the length of suspension, but it should not make a difference to the card colour

Wonder why we’re always so lethargic and timid away from home? Even when the opposition is awful.
Wolves should have battered us first half.
Bournemouth battered us too.
Newcastle awful.
Today awful.
Liverpool…was okay. And there for the taking and we played within ourselves.
West Ham we was okay too.
Big big games away from home for half a decade now we haven’t turned up other than maybe city away last year.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I am gonna put it out there that Bournemouth are a very deent team and that is our best win of the season so far.

Obviously before the season or even on the day id take a point, but thats only really based on legacy of OT etc. They are a poor team and bar a rocket by caicedo we created absolutely nothing.
It's a worrying trend as well which will be ignored by the poch haters but we've really not been good this year.
Still early days but if anything we look worse than last year and thats with no injuries compared to the most in europe last year. And the addition of neto, sancho and having nkunku, lavia and others basically like new signings.

Not sure Nick, this time last year we were in the bottom half of the table or thereabouts under Poch. Obviously things improved a lot in terms of results after Christmas.
But the fact is that we're 4th right now, currently sitting above Arsenal and I'm sure we'd have taken that with both hands at the start of the season. Long way to go of course but that's where we are today.
And I was one of the few on here who consistently defended Poch in those very shaky first few months of the season when he was getting criticised from all angles. So I have no skin in the game.

We really don't....we've regressed in the goalkeeping dep't because apparently Sanchez is now the best we have
Other than that we've not only got a fully fit squad, but many have improved hugely - Ceicedo Cucu Jackson to name three
We've added quality with Sancho Felix & Neto as well
Sadly there are a couple of sticking points...it's very clear that Mudryk and Enzo are severely limited players and only belong in the Euromick 11's along with Badashiele & Disasi

I was one of Poch's defenders - at least in terms of not thinking sacking him was the quick solution some others did.
But the truth is we were solidly midtable between 9th-13th all season until about the last 5 games of the season.
We finished 6th, but it was a weak 6th, we were never like CL contenders who missed out.
This year, we've been a team in top 4 contention - I suspect we'll eventually miss out, but it's a marked improvement.

I am not sure it's a fair comparison. I maybe wrong but I think our points tallyfor the s3cond half of last season was in the top 3/4. But even if that is false, the team was much improved by the time the season ended, and that is what Maresca inherited. P0ch inherited something significantly worse.
I also feel we are just as insecure in getting results as we were under Poch. We still have basketball games and defensively we remain awful. Also, when will the "Sanchez is crap" penny drop with Maresca.

Depends how you look at it. If the season had ran another 5 games we'd probably have ended 4th. We gathered the momentum necessary just too late.
It's the reverse of 21/22 where top 4 looked safe all season, but if that season had gone another 5 games, on-form, it would've been in jeopardy. In hindsight we'd created just enough margin for error in the first third of that season to hit that target.
For me, where the managers go, both of those seasons were fine but I'd expect more stability when aiming for the target the following season. Unfortunately neither got the chance.

Both Caicedo & Cucu looked great at the end of last season. Jackson's finishing has improved but how much of that is the manager? He had the worst convention rate from one of the best xG records in the league last season, at that point the manager's done his job & it's a fault of the player.
