Results =/= keepers kicking ability
Both things can be true, and 100% agree with TJ. Petrovic is very poor on the ball - however I do think overall he was a better keeper, again should have been addressed during the summer, and only ourselves to blame for this current situation. 2 CBs let go and 0 replacements, 20 keepers purchased, none world class or even close to be a 1st team regular in a team looking for champions league football

Because he's not good enough with his feet, Maresca wants a ball playing GK
----------------------------------------------------------------------
seemed a lot better than sanchez has shown so that doesn't really track TJ
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah doesn't make much sense to me either. And I generally felt a lot more confident with Petrovic in goal. Our upturn in results happened when Petrovic replaced Sanchez last season.
-----------------------------------------------------
I'd have kept Petrovic & had others, like Caicedo, help in phase 1 build up. As Pochettino did.
The difference in shot stopping ability really isn't that big between him & Sanchez, I'd nudge it to Petrovic personally. Sure Sanchez is technically better with his feet, but it's not much use when he's got the temperament of an idiot.

spot on...he was loads better instantly, Sanchez is an excellent shot stopper but that's like page 1 in the keeping requirements these days...the job is so much more
and frankly...the sooner we cut out this pathetic playing out of the area shat the better...it just invites trouble..you have to be 100% on it to get it right & that's not going to happen - hence inviting trouble

What have you got to prove sanchez is technically better with his feet? its been his biggest weakness this year
My point wasn't Sanchez is any better with his feet - it's probably what Maresca saw in pre season that made him go with Sanchez over Petrovic.
Don't think either are good enough to be our no 1 GKs.
It's a problem position even though we keep buying crap replacements.
Petrovic was very uncomfortable playing out, he tended to kick it long hence why I knew he didn't have much hope once Maresca came in
I think the problem is we were just buying keepers and not buying keepers specific for what the manager wants. A keeper good with the ball at his feet isn’t all that common and isn’t something you can just ask of a keeper if it isn’t natural. Generally they’re playing keeper BECAUSE they aren’t good with their feet.
Neither one is good enough. I never felt safe with Petrovic last season - he made fewer unforced errors than Sanchez, but he was too small and slight and he just got bullied in the area. Sanchez is much more commanding in his box, but far more likely to make unforced errors. Pick your poison

What TJ said. I don't have many recollections of Petrovic calmly finding an alternative to the simple pass if the opposition were pressing effectively. He'd either try the diagonal ball & it would go out of play or he'd just smack it long in a panic - hence we tended to give him more options to prevent this. Sanchez is better than that, he's certainly calmer than that.
When I said technically better I meant than Petrovic btw, not that he's technically (in a footballing sense) good with his feet

Yeah I can see that argument, and my poison is Petrovic.
I liked his "what it says on the tin" 'ness. Not a keeper who'll earn you 10 extra points a year, but not a liability either. There's a good possibility Sanchez will earn us 5 extra points this year but cost us 15 at the same time
Should have bought Oblak from Athletico
Mind you we should have prized Simeone away too
But we didn't...like we didn't buy Vardy & we won't get Goykores
Mind you...i've quite liked what i've seen from Maresca so far...didn't think i would
