But imagine if the league was to end tomorrow
The Mayans were right ....
I agree. Which is why I think Newcastle have done so well, mainly down to the underachieving of Chelsea.
I see alot of Liverpool fans saying if they get a striker, cm and a winger they should be able to challange for the top 4. Yes if this was 4 months ago, but I'm afraid that won't be enough next season with teams like Chelsea and Arsenal already showing they want to invest in the summer.
who knows
see who we buy. see who they buy.
Why are you assuming that Arsenal and Chelsea will improve their squads but we won't?
Have the signings moved Liverpool backwards?
========================================
100% no, the squad this season is better than the squad last season, it's just not been good enough to get us back in to the top 4.
Our position in the table belies the football we've been playing (for the most part) but without getting the right players in I would expect more of the same next season, albeit seeing us back in the top 6 without cracking top 4.
Our home record is absolutely atrocious, but we've been the better side in virtually every game we've played at Anfield (last night's embarressment aside), we just can't score, it's so frustrating.

------------------------------------------------
I think the point here is you WILL improve your squad.. but the Chelsea and Arsenal squads are already stronger at this moment in time... and will become even stronger over the summer.
I personally don't believe you will be able to break into the top 4 with 3 first teams signings. For me it'll take about 5 or 6 top quality signings just for you to challenge again. Which I don't see happening.
FatJan,
I never said Liverpool won't strengthen. It was just a hypothetical question to see how far the Liverpool fans think Kenny's signings have brought them.
I still don't think Arsenal's squad is that strong. Take RVP out of your team and put him in ours and I think our places in the league would be reversed.
No doubt getting into the top 4 will be difficult. The signings that we brought in have filled positional gaps. We have a squad, we now need quality in the right positions.
I think we will do well next season.
Have the signings moved Liverpool backwards?
====================================
I would say yes!
Didi, I agree actually that if you had a player like RVP in your squad you would climb a few places (not to 3rd though lol).. but the question is, where are you going to find a player of RVPs quality this summer?
I just said on another article below. I honestly dont think we will make top4 next season.
If we include ourselves and take this season's top 6, theres a potential 7 teams vying for 4 spots.
Thats even harder to do than this season.
What i would expect though is for us to challenge for that top4 alot longer and closer than we have this season.

talk about delusion

the best clubs only have 5-6 top quality players
I think you're overexaggerating

But that's the point isn't it though?? You feel Liverpool need to make 5 or 6 top quality signings to break into the top 4. Now I'd be very surprised if you or anyone else thought that last Summer.
So that's why I'm asking has the signings moved Liverpool backwards? Are Carroll, Downing, Adam and Henderson really the first team quality players that Liverpool need to be challenging for a top 4 place??

I thought that last summer and they didn't make those signings. Which is why they are still where they are today.
Well outside the top 4.
3-4

Go ahead. Before we start, don't say Gerrard either.
Reina Gerrard Suarez and Lucas.
All would get into the teams above us in the table....even City's
Patriarch, I don't think the signings have taken us backwards, Suarez and Bellamy have been a success, Adam has not Downing inconsistant. The others signings were for the future and replacesd dross like Poulsen, Ngog, Cole etc.
I think we need 2 top quality players in order to compete next season. Can we find them is the big question.
I would also put Bellamy in that list but i might be pushing it a bit
Agger, Gerrard, Suarez
Skrtel's been a monster this season and when he and Agger played together we had the top or second top defence.
Reina's a half because he's been off the boil this season but in all other seasons has been top class.
So 3 solids and a couple of halves.
3-4
I would only include Agger & Skrtel as a pairing...never alone
