Barry over Parker.
Lampard or AOC over Sturridge (That's if we go 4-5-1/4-3-3)
Rio over Cahill.

Depressing isn't it?

Not a single player would get in the Germany or Spanish team.

Out in the Groups stages!

Come on Olympics

I think Hodgson will go 451 until Rooney is available.
This is what I'd like to see, not so much what it will be.

Hart
Richards Smalling Rio Cashley
Carrick Gerrard Barry
Walcott Welbeck Young

Replace Gerrard with Rooney when avaiable.

Sir Thomas. Hodgson is good at working with what looks weak on paper. Question is whether he has time to get them organised.

sturidge and welbeck no thanks.

we will need to play 433 and crowd out the midfield, so have your back 5 with a middle 3 of parker, carrick and gerrard/lampard and a forward 3 of young and lennon/walcott and a center forward who aint welbeck or sturidge

Hart
Richards Ferdinand Terry Cole
Lennon Parker Carrick Young
Rooney/Gerrard
Welbeck

All proven players bar Welbeck.

Whichever way you look at it,any formation wouldnt compete in the PL never mind the world cup
Only hart and Rooney would get in Spain's squad

Terry and Ferdinand are both better than overrated Pique. Puyol's getting on a bit now. Ramos isn't even a RB so Richards could compete with him. Cashley has proved recently he's still got it; better than Alba. Carrick can easily match the Busquets role. Parker would make a good partner for him; mopping up play and supplying Carrick. Rooney is world class no matter what people say. Our weak links are the wings and striker, but I believe Welbeck can combine with Rooney well.

Agreed. Our squad is poor. The best we can hope for is to get our of the group. If we could scrape past the quarters I'd be delighted, not that we will though.

We just need to keep it tight and use the pace of Walcott, Young, Welbeck and Rooney to counter. If we play like that we might keep it respectable.

Such a weak team when you look at other nations. Forget Spain, just look at the german team:

Neuer
Lahm Mertesacker Hummels Boateng
Ozil Khedira Schweisteiger
Goetze Gomez Podolski

That's scary.

Hopefully Roy has planned a lot of sight seeing.
We won't be doing much else there.

Carroll ahead of Welbeck is a controversial pick, but he's been playing well and his physicality could cause France's defence problems. Wouldn't take Terry due to the off field problems he brings with him, and wouldn't start Welbeck either, he seems to just aimlessly run, and his finishing is poor.

After Rooney comes back from suspension. Otherwise sub him in for Gerrard? We don't exactly have a luxury list to choose from

Actually I'd have AOC over Yoing but it wouldn't happen

I would go with:
Hart;
Johnson, Carragher, Kelly, Robinson;
Spearing;
Downing, Henderson, Gerrard, Sterling;
Carroll.

Not many people have britains most expensive ever footballer in there.

Richard--Jagielka--Lescott--Cole
--------Carrick----Parker-----------
A.Johnson------------Young
--------Cleverley/Ox----------
-------Carroll/Sturridge--------

Not seen enough of Cleverly so not sure if he can play behind the striker but I know he keeps the ball well and Ox is the only other option unless you wanna go with Gerrard or Lampard. Up front I'd go with Carroll as he offers the most but only if he can continue his current form into the last game and International friendlies if he plays, as for Sturridge I personally think hes the most talented forwarded we have except for Rooney but hes lazy, not got the best attitude and has been extremely poor in the second half of the season so would be unsure whether or not too play him.

Don't be surprised if Kroos is starting in that Germany side.

I watched Carroll play against France at Wembley last year, when he was actually in form, he did t cause their defence any problems at all. He's know considerably worse, so what makes you think he will now?

Welbeck is our best option other than Rooney. He has pace, has good link up play, strong and can hold the ba up, and unlike most of our other players he can control it quite well.

He's not the finished article, but he offers more than any of our other strikers. Also, he cannot be that bad if he's keeping Berbatov out the side.

Nicky Maynard should get a run out up top in my opinion

Baines is a good fb but he might forget his comfort blanky, which is obviously going to be distressing. If we use what we have - ie speed on the flanks, with the likes of Young, Lennon etc, we could do slightly better than terrible.
