what exactly would i be bitter about? considering that 90% of my spurs supporting life has consisted of us finishing 10th with players like paolo tremazzani playing for us, then i am perfectly happy with current goings on...

My point about the smileys is they don't represent amusement: just your bitterness. I don't know your definition of European giants or elite but I consider us a top 10 European club which certainly puts us among the elite of thousands of clubs so I see nothing amusing or delusional about the notion. The wind-ups about trophies and whatnot may wind some Gooners up but not me. I'm perfectly content to watch my team compete at the top even if we don't win. The fact remains that achievements taken for granted by Gooners is just about your greatest achievement of the PL era. I'd credit you for it if your board didn't have so many delusional <surfers>

It's actually 2 European trophies but any trophy that's not the premier competition itself can't be taken seriously. It's about the same as bragging about 2nd division titles. Wenger got to the finals of his only UEFA Cup as well. And like I told you yesterday though your brain still can't process it, if I followed your perverse logic, Spurs Premier League record and status is no different from Yeovil so I guess you're in the same league. We may have a small club mentality but we're still eons out of your league considering the barest minimum of our expectation remains your best achievement of the Premier League era.

You have your analogies all mixed up. I'm comparing you to Burnley and not Burnley to us. You claim to be a big English club but your PL winning record is no different from Burnley despite 19 more years in the PL. You make up the Premier League numbers about as much as we do the CL so I don't see what your European qualifications has to do with anything. You fail in the PL about as much as we fail in the CL.

however in a cup competition, if you dont win it, then you have failed.. there is no footballing benefit of not winning it. if you get to the semis it does not qualify you for any other tournament etc.

so for you to boast about being a european elite, but never win the trophy that defines european elite, then your pompous claims are laughable.

The language is simple. So is the logic but still doesn't give it any credibility. I'm sure the overwhelming majority of your fans would say your only CL adventure was a failure because you didn't win it. You don't have to win a competition to be in the elite. Else, the Netherland wouldn't be among football's elite considering they never won the WC. Until our mid-noughties decline, we entered the CL every year as one of the top 5 favourites and we're consistently ranked in UEFA's top 8. We've consistently beeen one of the best sides in one of Europe's great leagues. To anyone who isn't on the wind-up, that makes us an elite European side.

A good performance in your first attempt doesn't preclude an embarrassing exit in the next. Tournament experience is highly overrated. It's about your quality. I disgress though from my initial point which you haven't really refuted; your league record is as much a failure as our CL record. We'll agree to disagree there rather than circular arguments that convince no one. Bottomline is Spurs are in no position to mock our CL record just like Burnley are in no position to mock Spurs' PL record. The logic that failing once is better than failing 16 times is just ludicrous and I think we know if roles were reversed, you'll find it so.
