I'm sorry Metro, I assumed you and the OP were one and the same person, seeing as you're the only two Liverpool fans trying to argue that your season was better than ours.

Right now Liverpool are an awful, awful team, especially given the £120m blown to assemble that team this summer. This despite the fact that you were challenging for the title only a couple of season ago. Your first serious title challenge for well over a decade. In the same time we've been consistently finishing in the top four (our club's minimum standard each season) and challenging for the title every three or four seasons (albeit without recent success). I wasn't being ironic listing all those things, even Kenny pointed out that the off the field stuff sets up the possibility for sustained progression, but you dismiss that because YOU're talking about trophies.

Then you post some inane comment about using smileys, in the same post where you yourself have used two.

I really hope you don't think that Liverpool's prospects are currently better than Arsenal's, because you could well be in for another 20 year wait for the title at the rate your club is progressing. This year you finished closer to relegation than the title FFS. Talk about delusions of grandeur...

Anyway, that's me done, enjoy your verbal jousting with the rest of our board, and of course all those other fans who just happened to see it from our point of view.

I've never argued that Liverpool weren't awful.

He point was that we've been more successful over recent seasons.

The stumbling block is clear - I see success as trophies, you see it as something completely different. I'm guessing you were born post 1990 because anybody who doesn't think trophies are the real measure of success really has been taken in by modern media.

The smileys were me being ironic, I thought you'd get it.

Nobody brought up prospects but the Arsenal lads. I'm not gonna come on here and proclaim that Liverpool will win a trophy in the next season or two. I'd rather have them in the cabinet and boast that.

This hasn't been jousting, its been a one sided affair and I have taken you to the cleaners, both intellectually and on football matters.

Tell me the next set of numbers for the Euromillions as I've knocked you into next week with facts, stats, wit and the odd smiley

A guy who calls himself "the great metropolis" and puts in his posts to potray himself as intelligent couldn't take a dirty towel to the cleaners, let alone an Arsenal fan that's having him for toast on breakfast

I don't put in my posts to come across as intelligent but if that's what you thought then that's welcome praise

like I said, taking the Arsenal fans to the cleaners. Don the owl vito was chewed up weeks ago, yet he still shows up every day after licking his wounds.

Metro

I would agree Liverpool would have had the better season if they had won the FA Cup but the Carling Cup has never matched up to the others in terms of prestige.

You can't argue with what the Arsenal and United fans have said.

Birmingham won the Carling Cup and got relegated. If you ask Birmingham fans if they'd view last season as a success I'd be willing to bet 90% say no.

Prize money for winning the League Cup is 100k. That wouldn't even cover Downing and Speaings wages for the week.

£40m alone from being in the CL.

Football isn't a sport anymore, if it was id agree you've had the better season but it's a business and economically Arsenal have made more money and will reap the rewards comercially

......

Like I said earlier in the thread, its how you determine success.

For me its trophies. Maybe the owners and the shareholders feel differently but I never thought I'd see the day when fans believed that too.

My point was straight-forward and backed up
----

You have not backed up your points at all. You have merely made a bunch of excuses and yet again, have failed to address my points directly, attempting to claim some sort of victory over everyone when you've done nothing of the sort. Repeating your sanctimonious claptrap over and over does not make what you're saying anymore valid, it merely makes me firmer in my beliefs.

You are reminiscent of a Megalomaniac.

is this still going on? many will say top4, many will say trophies. bit of a boring argument this one now

I did,

I even copied and pasted comments to support my comments and my wit

By the way, i'm not repeating things out of choice, its more necessity because posters like you don't like facts

I feel like I every time I prove you wrong you come back with a moral high ground approach which is bonkers given that I'm the one backing up my comments.

It all started when you conveniently wanted to look at the last 20 years. I pointed it out and you've had a chip on your shoulder ever since.

Actually, its not even a chip any more, its a full sized maris piper

Looking at the present & the relative state of both clubs (on & off the pitch)

Only an idiot would try & make out that Arsenal aren't the better placed of the 2 clubs moving forwards.

Liverpool are now facing their 3rd successive season without CL football & the path back into the top 4 looks a way off for them. Hail the mickey mouse all you like, but it was papering over some really big cracks when you lifted it, hence the sacking of Dalglish. I'd have money on Arsenal being vastly more successful that LFC over the next 5 years.

Thing is, any good footballer these days has ambitions of playing in the CL. Finishing top 4 and getting into the CL means huge TV revenue, a lot more than winning domestic cups. In turn, this attracts better players and a platform to build for the future.

You can use Arsenal and Liverpool as an example, I'm sure if you asked any player if they'd rather finish top 3 in the league and be in the CL next season, or win the CC and only be in Europa, most would choose to play for the team in the CL. Having spent a short time in the Europa this season, I can see their point; it just doesn't have the prestige of the CL.

As I mentioned before, people don't remember Carling Cups, teams use this competition to bleed in youth and give reserves playing time. Even the FA Cup appears to have lost a lot of it's value to the big teams which is a huge shame.

Maybe so - but that wasn't being discussed.

We were debating who has been the most successful over the last few years - Liverpool

Unles of course you see something other than trophies to be the real measure of success

"I'd have money on Arsenal being vastly more successful that LFC over the next 5 years."

predicting future trophies is futile.

So if I asked Gerrard if he'd rather have won the league cup, the FA cup, the Super cup and the European cup

as opposed to

Just playing in the CL

You think he would choose the latter ?

What? I am using last season as an example.

So if you re-phrase that to, would Gerrard take the CC victory or a spot in this years CL, he wuold choose the CL any day of the week, yes.

Sorry but any team finishing 8th/9th in the league cannot say they have had a better season than a team who managed to finish 3rd, the PL is the best indicator to how good a team is, not a cup. Anybody can win a cup, everybody knows that.

History only records the pots won, so if it makes you feel better about yourself, then on that score LFC win.

I never thought I'd see the day when RS fans were lauding the CC as their winning chip..............oh how the mighty have fallen.

But who will look back and say I finished third ? Nobody

Gerrard can look back and say that was the first time I lifted a trophy at the new wembley.

Since when did 3rd become the new 1st ?
