Can we stop guessing? Maybe he came to spurs because of the money or maybe he came because at this current moment in time we appear to be the better club.
Who knows?

More guess work from the Metro
He may not have done I suppose, but at the same time, I reckon he could have gone to 40, maybe 45k. You know that once we get involved, his agent would ask for more.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Fair point, but doesn't the fact that Liverpool offered him more money than Swansea negate Rodgers comments about "footballing reasons"? How can he question the player's motives if he used the leverage of more money to get him to consider anfield over Swansea?

Everybody. Rodgers confirmed that Liverpool weren't prepared to match Spurs. It's a fact. Although it's should be put like he went for the money, he didn't. He went for Spurs.
Both teams would have been close and it would have been a very difficult decisions but if anybody is met with a difficult job decision between two companies, most would choose the one who offers the most in terms of a salary. It's normal.
We all need to move on.
What was the offer from Liverpool, I mean you all seem to know that Spurs offered more.....even though the new Liverpool keep things out fo the press

Spurs is a detour to man united ;the ultimate destination for Gylfi. It is inconcievable to use liverpool as a launching pad to united. Get the drift?

I can't see that purely for the reason I'm not sure he is good enough. As soon as teams put a man on him he did not score for 11 games.
I do believe he got offered more money but I don't see any problem with that at all. Offer me more money and I'd leave. If there was no romantic attachment I'd rather live in London as well. Can't fault him.
Challenge accepted, Metro but if you'd oblige, could you please she'd some light on, or answer my synthesis accordingly?
Why then did the powers that be at Spurs offer a considerably higher wage to the player ?
Can we have some proof of both offers, a link maybe (something more credible than the daily fail, sun, goal.com, tribal football or the standard?)
Surely Spurs could have found out from Sig and his agent exactly what Liverpool were offering and matched it.
Not necessarily, the agent could have easily kept his cards closer to his chest and played a game of "bend over and say when"
Gylfi would still have signed with Spurs as he said that football reasons were behind his decision.
Therefore, I conclude that there are two possibilities:
1) Spurs wanted a player who must have made it clear that Spurs were his preferred choice citing football reasons and made the odd decision to nearly double his wage offer to that of Liverpool's
Is it not possible that Sig had made it abundantly clear that the only choice was spurs, then the board would've had the ball in their court and easily swayed the talks to their favour, much like when an interviewer can see you haven't worked for a bit and offers you the Lower limit in the advertised salary bracket...and where's the logical justification in reaching this conclusion anyway, apart from an "odd decision"?
or 2)
Spurs offered a wage similar to that of Liverpool but the player and his agent demanded more.
...or Gylfi accepted a lower or equal wage, because he liked the direction in which we are going and he believed we have a better squad/training facilities, and there is a better quality of life in London (for a rich guy).
Spurs obliged. If the Spurs board are stupid then option 1 could be right but I think option 2 seems the more plausible.
Sorry mate, but we've missed out on players before due to wage demands, no matter how much they've wanted to come.
If you don't realise that spurs board are as tighter than a duck's sack in an icy lake, then you must have living under a rock for ten years.
Rob, a reasoned comment amongst the dross.

You could have saved yourself a lot of time there. Spurs didn't match Liverpool, they upped the offer. Rodgers confirmed he knew the value of the player and wasn't prepared to meet the player's demands. Him going to Spurs obviously means they did meet his demands.
You seem like you have a bit of intelligence, surely you can see this? It's really basic stuff.
All this wasted effort over an average player who just wanted to earn more money while he could get it.
Complete non-starter. The Spurs won't progress any further with him, it will prove in time that we didn't really need him to get where BR is going to take us.
Surely Spurs could have found out from Sig and his agent exactly what Liverpool were offering and matched it.

Why would either the player or his agent tell spurs what was on the table? What could they possibly hope to gain from that apart from being offered a worse deal?

Where is the proof that Spurs offered more, do you believe BR would say that he is on a restricted budget at Liverpool and couldnt match the wage demands?
Still yet to see a figure offered by Liverpool and the deal he is on......just guess work from Reds
Well if he's not got more money and he's living in London rather than Liverpool then he's a bit of an idiot what with the cost of living difference.

It's all relational, he'll hardly be renting a flat for £1000/month.

So you now seem think you don't need him?.....Despite the manager that he played under last year trying to re-sign him....
must admit have not read hole thread sorry,,, but is there any proof that spurs offered more money than liverpool?
