What the eff is exciting to watch about Rooney? He's technically not particularly outstanding. Not a flair player by any means. Earlier in his career perhaps but certainly not since 2009ish.
If Messi had scored the third Walcott goal, all the Messi lovers on here would still be jizzing themselves over it.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Agreed.
Then you have not watched a lot of football rob. It was a good one but certainly not one of the best ones.
-------------
walcotts last goal, had that been suarez, he would of stayed down instead of getting up and looked around for a penalty, walcott battled through and showed great skill in doing so... but i guess that was luck seeing as he is british
was that a rob and VC agreement
VC, I think the difference is that Walcott doing those things is an anomaly whereas Messi does it very week, so people appreciate how good it is.
wayne and robin, where abouts do you actually live mate??

Yes Messi is consistent so you do appreciate anything he does maybe if it is over exagerated because its Messi.
But Walcott scored the most normal goal a couple of weeks back and the commentators nearly jizzed all over each other.

so true.
What is weirder than me and VC agreeing is that an Australian is defending all things British!
Someone define flair ffs. Walcott is getting labelled a flair player

Yes RVP is a clinical goalscorer but also a flair player. Besides Messi and Ronaldo which we will obviously exclude from our discussions, RVP is the most complete striker in the world along with Ibra.
RVP has bags of flair. Over the years he has done many nutmegs, dribbles, volleys, fancy flicks etc which definitely makes him a flair player.
I would say RVP is much more than a goal machine and certainly a flair player.
Mata, Hazard, Suarez, RVP, Silva all flair players IMO.
RVP is a clinical goal scorer.
--------
I'd say RVP's touch, technique and link-up play makes him a flair player. You make him sound like Hernandez.
Messi scores the same goal almost every time.
Emile Heskey's a flair player
Mr C
If Walcott is a flair player than my 3series is a ferrari.
The league has a lot of domestic players so you need a strong british component to understand what you're dealing with. Experience.
But at the end of the day the real class comes from abroad and that's what seperates the top sides from the not.
Back to the beginning of the thread, you all mixed and matched fundamentally different types of technical skill when making comparisons.
Henderson has bags and bags of technical skill. But not the Suarez kind (dribbling, flicks, beating players one on one, etc), he has Carricks type of technical skills (one touch passing, great first touch, awareness).
You would never compare someone like Robben with Pirlo but both have great technical skill. Just very different kinds.
wayne and robin,
dont take this the wrong way mate, but if you have no afilliation with utd, and lets be honest, you think all british players are sheite, and utd have always had a core of british players, and will probably continue to do so, why support them??
why not support barcelona or real who have a team full of flair players?
Yeah, many of Messi's goals get hyped up really bad. But you know what to expec from him so the skill and invention he shows on a regular basis is rightly appreciated.
Walcott's goal was amazing, but how often do you or will you ever see him do that? That's why people didn't get as excited, much like people didn't get that excited when Rafael scored that amazing goal earlier in the season.
Rightly or wrongly, this is the nature of it. Every Rooney goal gets hyped up because it's Rooney. Same with RVP and Ronaldo.
Walcott doesn't exhibit what they do as often so doesn't get the praise.
What is flair? I'd say its the ability to do or try something different to the norm.
You see plenty of flare on the pitch in Serie A.

You think all british players are shiiite.

Who said this? Stop putting your words in my mouth. I have always maintained that British defenders are one of the best in the world and I want our defenders to be british.
However for other positions foreigners are better.
Considering that England consistently make the quarter finals of international competitions, we can't be that bad.

English strikers - why not as good now?
