Messi is involved in most attacks. Aside from the goals he usually creates chances or does some sort of build up play, and he does that even on his quiet games.

I think he'd of been a jockey.

Nah, I think Messi would have a really good job. He seems like an intelligent and hardworking guy so wouldn't have a job like that.

I doubt he'd be a pro footballer though.

Not in that polka dot suit he wouldn't...

"Look at Joe Cole. Now, of course it's silly to say he's anywhere near as good as Messi but in terms of natural talent he's the nearest thing England have produced in the last 15 years."

"He made it to the top so why wouldn't a young Messi?"

Because Messi is how short now? 5'6 or something. Back then he was 4'1. You really think the dinosaurs in this country would give him a shot? They'd tell him to play badminton or something.

Dubbed

Nah, the growth drugs in this country would make him at least 6'1

1st Earl, fair point, he'd have been an Elton John tribute act.

"RVP was an exception rather than the rule"

disagree, he was the rule as well

British core with class foreigners to put you top has been your model for a long while

I was referring to the fact buying ready made players at their full potential isn't something United do to often

The last one was probably Berbatov

I agree, Dubbed.

I highly doubt anyone would have taken that risk.

You also have to consider that it would have been much harder for him at grassroots given his size. Regardless of ability. That's just the muggy mentality.

Have you seen Messi play football at the age of 10? It's on Youtube. He plays identical now. He even that little chip.

Look at the current england strikers.
Rooney - Struggles to control a football but still a world class player
Walcott - Struggles to control a football even arsenal fans agree.
Defoe - Struggles to control a football
Sturridge - Decent first touch, shooting and close control but nothing else
Welbeck - Sometimes first touch out of the world, sometimes worse than Carroll
Andy Carroll - No comments
Grant Holt - Struggles to control a football
Bent - Struggles to control a football but ok finisher
Basically every English striker has a poor first touch.

Why do you support an English club? You do realise that Manchester is a city in England?

posted on 8/1/13

VC, i think you are being harsh on RVP.

You forget RVP whe he came to England recently and even in his Feyernood days was a wingforward akin to Suarez with bags of nutmegs, skills and sumptuous technique.

Admittedly, he is now a goal machine but he still shows glimpses of his technique on a regular basis.

There is a reason the best player on the planet is Argentinian and not English. Their footballing philosophy and culture is a lot different to ours, that assuming he was born here and stayed here through to his teenage years, he'd be not even half as good a player.

"Welbeck - Sometimes first touch out of the world, sometimes worse than Carroll"

No. He can't play football very well.

fair point Macca

you do do it though for the right player

Cole, RvN, Berbatov, Rio Veron, Forlan, Keane were all big names at the time

Fergie has been no stranger to breaking transfer records, especially in the early years

There are 200+ countries in the world.

England are solidly a top 10 country and their league is exciting and fun to watch unless the billions of people around the world just like to throw their money away for no reason.

You always come on here and seem to slag off English players and even English United players.

You are a guy from India right? Which means you musn't have been born a United supporter like say, someone who lives in Manchester.

I am Australian but moved here early on back to my mothers side of the family who are British and I chose United at a time when Liverpool, Everton and Arsenal were the teams the kids supported.

Anyway, I digress. You support United and you seem very passionate about it. Can you not see that to most United supporters, especially ones from Manchester that the best part of supporting United is seeing local talent make it in the United team. Players like Welbeck, Michael Keane and even Powell for example.

At the risk of straying from my point, my question is and has been posed by other supporters today, why not support Barca or Real if you seem to have no appreciation of the country that gave us United?

I'm all ears myself Rob too

Preach on Robert

I beleive that Macca but there were also 'British transfer records' like keane and transfer record for a british striker like rooney.

I didn't mean just outright record

When he saw someone he wanted, he went and got them
