I don't think Fergie was wrong to not get rid of Rooney, his decision has been completely vindicated.
But I do think Rooney was such a over the whole thing.

melton,
i agree mate, and for me personally thats part of the reason i think it could be time for Fergie to call it a day.
going back 5-10 years ago the likes of Giggs and scholes wouldnt be playing as they are now, and rooney would have been shown the door.
i think Fergie, while not losing his hunger has such, has certainly lost an edge to him.
-------------------------------
I'd say that he has had to adapt his approach as players have become more powerful.
This Rooney bashing is all getting a bit out of hand. People referring to him performing poorly for the last two years? What a load of rubbish. He started poor this season with that game at Everton, then got injured in the second game. But since he came back he was performing well for us, all be it in a more withdrawn midfield role which could account for his lack of goals for a while and some people's view that he wasn't performing well. Being played in that role, which was essentially midfield, Rooney did well for us so i don't really get all this slagging him off.
Once he got moved up front again he started scoring, obviously, and his influence pre-Swansea was there for even the most ardent Rooney-haters to see. Admittedly he was woeful in the Swansea game but that still doesn't warrant the abuse he gets off some of our fans.
As for last season, he was our best player by quite some distance and scored something like 32 goals so i really can't fathom the whole "poor for the last two seasons" rubbish being spewed by some people on here.
All i ever hear by some select member on ja606 is that Rooney 'doesn't run at players like he used to' and that he's lost something since his yougner days. This is the perfect representation of footballing naivety in my opinion. If you can't see that Rooney has developed immensley as a footballer over his time at United then i really pity you. His overall game has improved massively and we should be grateful that we have him.
Does he blow hot and cold? Yes, like all players. But he definitely blows hot more than cold which isn't the impression you get off some posters on here. Since Ronaldo left he's been the heartbeat of our team and i just feel as though the signing of RVP has led to people feeling they can have a go at Rooney now because he's no longer the only class attacking player we have.
"I think that SAF played the whole think perfectly. He let the press know about the dispute and relied on the reaction of others to talk Rooney into staying and showing him how silly he was being. "
That isn't what it was about though, it was Rooney renegotiating his contract. It basically went Rooney wanting a new contract, United not wanting to do it, Rooney going public saying United having no ambition, United then gave him the new contract, Rooney was happy again.
Its a tough one though someone had to do it and im sure Rooney did it for himself as much as the fans.
But then he accepted terms almost as if it was money and not the clubs ambition.

Rooney wont be paid £200k a week by United.
---
What do you reckon hes on then? Atleast 160k id say
----------------------------------------
160k basic salary. With image rights etc, closer to 200k.
TRC, I don't understimate it, it was one of the examples I gave as to why his value would be so high.
I still warm to Rooney, he's given alot to this club over the years and it did hurt me what he done to United.

I dont think anyone is bashing him just exploring the possibilities.
Lets face it he hasnt been fantastic and the whole RVP signing was to have someone reliable when Rooney wasnt performing and that has been proven so far this season.
Sir Alex is gonna feed Waynes parents to ponies. And then get Radiohead to laugh at Wayne as he cries.
The idea of Rooney leaving could be a valid one if SAF feels he has someone in place already. As for it being Lewandowski i'm not so sure. Didn't he come out with a statement saying the Lewandowski transfer is “absolute nonsense”!?

A lot of money to be blowing hot and cold id say.
When players like Valencia will be on £50 - 70 k a week.
Im just saying top earners need to be earning thier corn.
i just feel as though the signing of RVP has led to people feeling they can have a go at Rooney now because he's no longer the only class attacking player we have.
Now this I agree with, this season Rooney has been criticised much more compared to previous years.

Maybe because we arent reliant on him anymore we have that luxury.
In the past we have been over reliant on Rooney I would say.
Also Kagawa needs time to play in his natural position as a number 10
..................
Is it his natural position? I have not seen any evidence of this. He didn't play that position for Dortmund.
In all the Dortmund games I saw last season he played behind Grosskreutz and Lewandowski, in a midfield role.

No it didn't. United offered Rooney a contract which he turned down, saying he wanted to leave the club. It wasn't about him wanting a new contract that we hadn't offered to him.

But his underperformance this season has been massively exaggerated. Like i said, he started terribly against Everton but once he was back from injury he was good for us at least. Awful against Swansea but prior to that game he'd had a very good run of form

VC Kagawa himself said upon signing SAF gave him reassurances that he would be played in his favoured position behind the striker.
Yes, it was Statman. He turned down the contract, you offered more money, he signed it.

Perhaps. But if someone offered £40 million we would be mad not to take it.
We could do so much to reinvest that money.

to be honest though arab mate, people are justified in doing so.
for someone on the wages he is on, you would expect a lot more than he has given this season.
i dont think its anything to do with RVP, its Rooney's general standard of play thats the issue this season.
There was a stat somewhere that Rooney covers the most ground in the team, he's a team worker and puts as much as he can into the side. I'm not surprised he blows hot and cold, he must get tired easily.
I can't warm to Rooney, as a person I think he's a bit of a unt. Great player though.
Dont forget as a club we live within our means.
Selling a striker who is on big bucks and who blows hot and cold for 40 million would be great for us.
We could invest that money and continue living within our means.
I mean 2 more years Rooney will be close to 30, would we get that kind of money for him? Also will he get better over these 2 years?
Perhaps. But if someone offered £40 million we would be mad not to take it.
We could do so much to reinvest that money.
