Carrick isn't in the same technical class as Xavi. Not even close, and I highly rate Carrick as a player.

I doubt even Rob would say that. And I doubt that Macca has even said as such.

This is brilliant. My goal of the season. This is the sort of football we should be teaching our kids, not the kick and rush, get rid of it style. Coaching needs to change drastically. It doesn't help that the FA employ the likes of Hodgson and Pearce in the main national positions.

Although Rodgers gets a lot of stick for his Brent-esque chat, he is exactly the sort of coach we want to see more of in this country.

Don't know whether he meant 'yes' carrick is better than Xavi, or 'no' he's not. Either way, given the players he has listed, it makes no difference.

Technically Carrick is not better than any of them, even Busquets, to suggest otherwise is hilarious (and to use an often misused ja606 term), utterly deluded.

Carrick is brilliant. For me as good as Busquets. But Xavi is a step above.

No, not even as good as Biscuits. Tactically, biscuits is the best player I have seen in a looong time! And Xavi is more than just a step above. Have you ever seen how that guy creates space for himself by turning quickly with the ball? Amazing! Have never seen anything like it!

I rate Xavi a lot. But 'step above' is just a term that could mean anything. But yeah, Xavi for me isn't peerless.

As for Busquets. He is very good but Carrick is so underrated it's unbelievable so excuse me for not having this debate with someone who is one of his underraters!

I don't underrate Carrick in fact I think without him, you wouldn't have won the title last year or at least not by much. Thing is United fans tend to overrate him in absurd ways as seen by Maccas comment. If you want to see what I am talking about with Biscuits, look for his highlights of the Barca-Atletico 1st leg league game and tell me whether you have seen a better tactical performance. The way he dispossed them and made space to spray the ball to other players was out of this world. Of course that is just 1 game, but he does that very often and for me that was his best game in a Barca shirt.

Carrick has gone from 'underrated' to 'overrated' in the past couple of months.

He's always been a good player. But as one can see on here for example, couple of guys actually believe he's elite level.

Carrick isn't as good as Busquets. Still a quality midfielder, though.

He's been unfortunate to have been paired with so many different (as well as not good enough) partners at United.

Agreed Darren. Wenger wasn't crazy when he said that he wouldn't look out of place in the Barca midfield.

Carrick isn't even that much better than Arteta. Same level. Just a good player.

Carrick is underrated and overrated at the same time. He is underrated by those who want a swashbuckling, goalscoring, creative central midfielder. He is equally overrated by people that appreciate what he does, but try to put him in the same category as Pirlo, Xavi, Alonso and Schweinsteiger.

He is a very good central midfielder that we don't see often enough in England but we do see on the continent. We love the swashbuckling midfielder like Gerrard, the wear your heart on a sleeve midfielder like Parker (who is awful) or the goalscoring midfielder like Lampard. We don't appreciate a player like Carrick. By we I mean the media. We as fans do appreciate what he does. He should be an England starter in mu opinion but he's not the level as those i've mentioned before.

I agree with most of what you say but I strongly disagree about Alonso. The guy has been very poor over the past 3 years where Carrick has just gotten better.

But you do make some other great points.

Definitely better than Arteta.
