this will never be settled

the people who underrate him are as pigheaded as those who overrate him and he's nearing the end of his career.

He'll always be marmite

The main problem is the duo we have managing the national and U21 teams.

What if you like Carrick but don't like marmite?

Whilst neither are going progress us, neither are responsible for the last 50 years of mediocrity.

---------------

It's not their fault but they are part of the problem.

the mentality of how to play the game at all levels is what causes british players to be so limited

from my own experiences...

playing on full sized pitches as a 9 year old, where i was put on the wing and would touch the ball a hand full of times every match

as an adult playing 5 a side footy on one of those dodgy wood floor indoor pitches....average age of player about 40 odd and still trying to play 100 mph footy on a 5 a side pitch, screaming at each other and taking the score so seriously

i suggested not taking the score during the match (so players can play relaxed and without inhibition without pressure as to who's winning)
playing 2 touch footy with a one touch finish (to improve touch and technique)
5 passes minimum before a team can shoot

none were interested

i dont play anymore, as i wasn't enjoying my footy

most of the blokes who go havent improved in years not surprisingly

sound familiar ?

that's british football for you at every level in my opinion

Outdated arguments. Look at how hard Gareth Southgate worked to get goal and pitch sizes reduced for youth players. Look at St George's. England have finally started the hard work to get a decent standard of youth player and in 10 years or so you'll be up there with Spain and Germany.

Just be patient. Until then make do with some Quarter final appearances. It could be worse. You could be Australia!

"Carrick is much better than Arteta."

He is better. But not by much.

It's not an outdated argument. We've only just starting doing this. We're about a decade behind. And unfortunately this won't filter through to the grass roots for years.

Aren't all of your fans complaining that he's a crap holding midfielder?

Any role in the midfield they play Carrick is far superior.

Arteta is a decent player but Carrick is playing at a far higher level.

Its outdated in the sense that the hard work has started. The argument should have stopped when they built St George's.

You guys will be amazing in 10 years. But while you yourself aren't 'guilty'of it, it does annoy me when I see people bitching about how awful English football is as if no-ones doing anything about it.

He's not a crap holding midfielder. He's just been off form lately.
Plus he gets little support whenever he plays.

we need more foreigners in the side like France did when they were good and the Germans

Looks a pretty average holding midfielder to me.

He's a good player, I've always like Arteta, but he can't be compared to Carrick.

we're about to pick up close to a million Romanians and Bulgarians

Maybe Brazil should be given EU membership

It will keep being a problem while we keep appointing manager's like that.

We need to get manager's who have a plan, not necessarily a "pretty football" philosophy but some one who has a plan going forward.

If the FA are so against appointing foreign managers Maybe the bootroom approach will work? A manager like Adi Vivash (our youth coach) would work wonders for the young England players although for obvious reason's i hope he doesn't get poached.

I agree with Harry, atleast with him if all else fails there be something that resembles football to watch.

I can see just how bad you had it now, didn't know Roy was that bad

You didn't play too badly against Brazil at Wembley. If Wilshere stays fit and Rooney regains his form you could sneak into the semis next year.

posted on 12/6/13

There's no way England can sneak into the Semis. They were very fortunate to get as far as they did in the Euro's playing anti-football.

Hodgson was never the right man to take over. He's a dinosaur. We saw that at Liverpool.

Redknapp wasn't the right man Rutgers

This is the problem. There is no English manager who has the right style or the philosophy to take it on.

Glenn Hoddle was the last England manager who had a plan.
