There's been a few posters being very vocal about it.
I hope his ideals are respected, when he came into power, he had such massive backing that he could do whatever he wanted.. yet he didnt get consumed by that power, he did the right thing over and over again.
Those that condemn him haven't walked an inch in his shoes, and themselves are deserving of condemnation.
Well said. Unfortunately this is the type of disrespect you get from modern age keyboard warriors.
There are a lot of people out there who will be glad Mandela has gone. There will always be people like that.
But I don't particularly care for the views of the BNP or Liverpool fans in general.
Been a lot of hatred for the man but you would come to expect that for any leader who went about changing the world. Ofcourse he wasn't perfect but his ideals and values are there for everyone to see and his work of seeing SA change from the apartheid rule should most definitely should be applauded.
You would judge him if you where one of the many innocent people he signed off to be murdered....
That said he was a great man but most certainly not the saint some would have everyone believe him to to be.

It is perhaps not the time to be criticising a man who has just died.
But I think it would be wrong to sweep certain aspects under the carpet.
As a fellow South African
I agree
Allot of the peole on here probably don't know that much about him. I can't claim to know the ins and outs of what he did so this is the first comment I've made on any of the threads.
But he inspired millions so that can't be a bad thing I guess.
Freedom fighter or terrorist, all depends on which side of the attrocities you are on and what the agenda of the Western news agencies you are on at the time.
Love him or hate him you cannot deny he has the blood of many innocents on his hands
It doesn't matter who dies in the public eye there will always be people who can't help themselves but abuse them or there family for some reason.
People are strange.
Even if Mandela did some morally questionable things, to me they were more than justifiable, and his actions once his battle had been won proved what a great man he was.
He didn't want violence and retribution or power for the sake of it or money, he just wanted equality for all people. He had to fight to try and get it because he lived in a dangerously unequal time.
Love him or hate him you cannot deny he has the blood of many innocents on his hands
Wrong, with one speech he probably saved several million lives.

He had, de facto, absolute power, but it didnt corrupt him. Sign of a great man.

Love him or hate him you cannot deny he has the blessing of millions.
See what I did there
Boris, is killing one man justified by saving ten?
One mans "peace activist " is another man's "terrorist"

the few detractors of Mandela won't even know what you're on about.

The money he signed off for defence spending(Billions) could have been used to better the lives of millions who had been repressed under former governments. But BAE and other defence companies/governments saw the real benefit.
But he inspired people so he wasn't a monster.
These people who think he was a terrorist, when you watch a film, like say Die Hard or Django Unchained, are you rooting for the bad guys because the hero uses violence?
Or do you recognise that the violence is justified because of the bigger picture?
pity we havnt got people in power in this country like nelson mandela. Instead we have dictators CAM Moron and fiddler osbourne who use the policy of divide and oppress . They believe in "Im all right B******s to the rest.
Can we agree his wife was a necklacer
I have merely pointed out that for some people the man was no more than a terrorist.
He was given the title of freedom fighter from the Western media once they seen the writing on the wall for the apartheid regime.
It's best for the Western governments to be seen to be dealing with a former freedom fighter running a country rather than a former terrorist.
Also Nelson would be far happier spending his nations billions with Countries who classed him as a freedom fighter than a terrorist.
At the end of the day it's all about politics and malipulation of the press

@ Illori - tell me when did Graca Michel order the necklace of anyone?
You raise an interesting question righteous. Add many have said history is defined by its winners and that side of the fence.
Mandela was and admitted to indiscriminate bombings throughout his campaign.
As an example, had Hitler succeeded with world domination would he be portrayed the same in the history books?
As mentioned before Mandela did many great great things, but also some truly horrific crimes against humanity and that should not be brushed under the carpet.
