But he will have to see out his contract until summer 2015 wouldn't he?

Yep apologies read it wrong

This would be idiotic UNLESS Rooney doesn't wish to extend his contract.

If he doesn't want to stay we should be looking to future if he's not part of that Mata is only 24 and world class.

For me it depends on how Rooney feels about his future at Utd, he doesn't have long left on contract.

Dont United have more pressing problems in central midfield that need addressing anyway, they have Kagawa if they need to play a no10. Mata is probably going to PSG from the most recent rumours, though i am predicting if he goes it will be in summer (yes even with the World Cup coming)

Players can only agree pre contract 6 months before but with foreign clubs only.

Yes you are right. Central midfield is a massive problem and 2 CMs are needed big time. Then a winger. Attacking wise we are as good as anyone and fine there

Will Rooney want to leave the North West, though?

May play a decision in where he sees his future.

Precisely Darren

Why leave the bright lights of Manchester to the Sheite smog of London. Plus he must have seen made in Chelsea. Them birds are dog rough

Mata can play anywhere in the "3" of a 4-2-3-1. He'd be a great creative option there. Levels above Kagawa imo.

Kagawa is one of classic cases of martyrdom where his stock rises by not getting picked as a way to quantify poor results/performances. I've seen nothing special from him during his time in England.

Mata is in a different league to Kagawa.

Chelsea couldn't afford him outright now anyway after their loss. Rooney would be upwards of 40m

Spot on

That isn't just the case of Kagawa. Many fans do that, especially when a player is injured for a long period. People think they will come back and be a saviour. Another example of that for us was Hargreaves

Why dream on??? Chelsea recorded a loss of 50m. They would then have to shell out 40m for Rooney. They can't keep affording them sort of losses with FFP

I think we can afford to spend 100mill Euros comfortably with the extra revenues coming in through CL money, league money, Adidas and Gazprom deals. Shouldn't be a problem.

I think he meant dream on about the valuation. £

£40M for an injury prone 29 year old with 1 year left on his contract who wants out? £22.5M + £1.5M add ons at best. If you're lucky.

Teams can lose an average of 35m a year atm over a three year period so that's 105m despite last years losses the year before was good and I'm assuming this year will be good Chelsea are comfortably inside the ffp.

Could be wrong but isn't it something like 39m over 3 seasons to compete in the CL?

The wizard of oz. that maybe the valuation you would put on him but do you think we would put a 22m valuation on him?

FFP would probably cause trouble for us if it wasnt for the French teams complicating UEFA's problem lol

Rooney is worth £22m in sponsorship alone, particularly for an English club.

It's hard to say how much Rooney would go for, to be fair. We got RVP for £24m with a year on his contract, but in contrast, we paid £18m for Ashley facking Young who had a year remaining on his.

Rooney's marketability may increase the price. I don't see a bidding war going on either as I can't see the big European clubs moving for him and I don't think we'd entertain a bid from City.

Just done some reading it's 37.5 over two seasons.
