No way

We'll take Rooney and give them Arteta! He can link up with Moyes again

Yeah that was my thinking too, but the players potentially could play that way, just not with Jose.

I wonder how Abramovich feels about how Jose's Chelsea are playing right now?

Probably better than the last 3 years hence no sacking

I meant playing attractive football, which is what I think he was getting at.

So you think it would be possible despite copying Bayern's game plan under Heynckes pretty much exactly we'd somehow be able to invent a variant of it that the same people that liked his style of play would find unattractive?

Eh?

Mr A. changes his tune, one minute he wants the beautiful game and then the next he can't resist the thought of defaulting back to silverware grabbing.

He keeps forgetting to take his pills around Feb/March time. That's when he gets all panicky and sacks someone

He wants attractive football, he wants trophies....

And he usually wants it all by yesterday at the latest.

It's not Mourinho's mantra to play expansive creative attacking football. Every man and his dog knows this.

On the other hand Bayern were already the leading team in this department and then appointed the manager who is arguably the best exponent of that footballing philosophy to improve upon it.

Mourinho wanting his team to press like Bayern doesn't mean his team will ever play with the fluency and creativity of Bayern.

He's already fobbed off his best playmaker and turned his attackers into defenders.

Maybe true but whose to say Jose will be there for long?

If a new manager did come in and had the options of Rooney with Chelsea's current AM options it could work couldn't it.

So by following the exact same gameplan of Dortmund and Bayern everyone overhyped last season you think Jose would somehow be able to produce a variant which would be unattractive to watch?

posted on 2/1/14

Bayern and Dortmund's play was overhyped?

Pretty sure Bayern are the best team on the planet right now while Dortmund the previous 3 years were playing brilliant football.

posted on 2/1/14

And Chelsea don't play anything like either side.

posted on 2/1/14

Jose is asking his players to work hard and close down players. They must play like Bayern.

posted on 2/1/14

Well obviously not you don't flick a magic switch and instantly play like another team that you choose to play like despite the fact you don't currently have all the players to do so that would be delusional thinking

posted on 2/1/14

Jose players negative football despite the fact he could go 3-0 up against the likes of Barca in 20 minutes

posted on 2/1/14

I am not being funny but arent Bayern playing the exact same way Chelsea did when Jose 1st came? Powerful pressing football with a solid midfield, 2 good wingers, solid back 4 with full backs pressing?

posted on 2/1/14

Jose Mourinho's teams have always been counter attacking sides that have never played anything like Bayern.

It's successful so he's obviously going to stick with it. But just because he's getting his players to work hard like Bayern doesn't mean they'll end up playing a creative style of play like them as it's not what Jose does.

Bayern's attack is a lot more fluid and I'm not too sure who their Makalele is? Bayern's midfield is a lot more mobile.

Both teams play a powerful pressing game. I would also say that Chelsea team's defence were a lot stronger than Bayern's.
