If he does leave, its strange though because of how long he's been at Utd and what he's achieved and his status at the club and to just cut them off just like that if Utd dont make the CL and leave at the first sign of trouble. It'd be like wiping away all the goodwill he's earnt up over the years.
Darren, I think those Mata + cash rumoured bids might have had some truth in them after all despite the denials from the club.
Mr C among a section of the United fans there isn't much goodwill anyway...
The idiots that abuse him the moment a rumour comes out ect.
I don't want Rooney as either part of a deal with Mata or even as a stand-alone deal. This is no reflection on his abilities or him as a player, I just don't think that he is the type of striker that we clearly need. I think that we need a clinical out-and-out fox-in-the-box type striker that does fack all but guarantee lots of goals, not the type of player that will work buckets for the team tracking back into midfield to help out an already congested midfield (admirable though that is).
I don't suppose someone like Jimmy Greaves is available?
One would think that, Mr C, but football isn't always that simple.
If it looks like United are on a downward spiral, which going out of the CL would suggest is true, then it's unlikely he'll want to finish his career trying to get the team back to the top.
I'm unsure about those rumours, to be honest. I just don't think Chelsea would have wanted to try and strengthen United whatsoever.
DTKF the thing is though having Rooney at Chelsea would have improved them so much this season that it would have been worth strengthening United to strengthen Chelsea...
This is on the assumption that United would have only sold Rooney to Chelsea with Mata coming the other way....

So Hernandez then?
I don't think Chelsea would have seen it that way.
7, its looking like the bid from us were merely to just lay down an early marker. Let Rooney and Utd know we're waiting in the wings when he does decide to go. I dont think Rooney was ever in danger of going this summer but Mourinho just tried to stir the pot a little and he didnt even up the bid that much either. The kind of bids that Mourinho knew would be immediately rejected. Maybe he knows Rooney will not sign a new contract.
Summer I dont see RVP coming to us after this

I couldn't see it either Mr. C but we just need someone who converts a higher ratio of chances than we have been doing all season (Southampton away excluded).

Chelsea couldn't afford him outright now anyway after their loss. Rooney would be upwards of 40m
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Dream on
........
Why dream on??? Chelsea recorded a loss of 50m. They would then have to shell out 40m for Rooney. They can't keep affording them sort of losses with FFP
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Easy because our wage bill is £160m and we make £256m of revenue
Figure out our transfer budget
Summer if our AM's can start scoring then it'd help. I think Hazard Oscar Willian and Mata all have 10-15 goals in them each.
Moyes would not have a clue to how to use a player like mata.
Murinho can't and he's 100x the manager moyes is.
On that basis no.
But mates gotta leave, this guy is one of the best footballers in the world and was the best player in the league last year and then gets dropped undeservedly. No wonder the poor blighter is frustrated.
It'd be interesting to see how Rooney would work out at Chelsea. I'm not sure he's the striker they need given how they set up.
Rooney has always had a tendency to keep dropping deep, he does this even when he leads the line for United.
He'd score loads I reckon but I think a player like Falcao is just what Chelsea need rather than Rooney.
Rooney would probably be better suited to what Arsenal want from their striker.
I agree Mr. C but just imagine if they all did that and the CF was missing fack all as well. Perhaps we might then get somewhere near City's firepower.

Darren I agree, you and me had this convo recently.
We need a Suarez or Ibra really
Feck them both in 69 position. ...their height is same anyways
Lads this is all well and good plucking out the big star strikers that we can buy but the question is do they trackback?!
Darren
Agreed, it was something I said in the summer. Although I think he would be an obvious improvement on what they currently have he isn't the perfect signing for Chelsea.
But then again if Chelsea want to use Rooney as a false #9 and play similar to the way Bayern are with Goetze it could potentially work?

Mr C, Rooney is the best in the business at that, Barry Smith has a graph to prove it as well.

Mourinho getting a team to play similar to Bayern?
What the whole team working hard to win back the ball then being lethal in attack?
Isn't that pretty much what Mourinho wants us to play like
