the bookies odds on a young player getting capped are usually insane
in hindsight I wish I'd spread £100 around ten prospects or so just for the long term enjoyment of having a potential payday

Harry Wilson's grandfarther apparently made £125,000 off a £50 bet when he was 18 months old

Sterling was easily our best player for the first half of the season. I don't think there can be an argument there. To be our best player at 20, shows that he has great talent and not just potential.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think it said more about our team than Sterling. Everyone was sheit at the start of the season. Also his form only lasted until November. 3 good months at the end of last season and 3 months at the start of this season just isn't enough to be bossing about the 5th best club in the country.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Did it? Possibly as he was still creating a host of chances and yet we weren't scoring goals, apart from his that is. I think it says a lot about what he was doing also. You won't find many twenty year olds across Europe who were doing what he was. People say he's overrated, judging by this site he's underrated. That's before you even consider he's potential.

Yeah but to balance this out I feel the team was set up to get the best out of him at the time.
So when the team is set up to get the best of him he is good enough to build a title challenging team around?
Sounds like a good player to me...

That's the whole point of setting a team up, you're hardly gonna set it up so as not to get the best out of your players.
No matter how we've set up and what position Sterling has played, he has done very well. That's pretty much unheard of for a player his age to play so many different positions to such a high standard.
He been good but for me he hasn't really made the impact that our best young Liverpool players have made in the past; Fowler, Owen, Gerrard, McManaman. He has been our best youth player since them though. I'm still not sure what sory if player he is. He's played in various positions and the only time he's looked really good was when the team were on fire, and Sturridge and Suarez were unstoppable. Perhaps it's much pressure to put on a youngster but he hasn't done enough this season for me. And going to a bigger team the pressure is only going to become bigger.

Yeah, I think that almost pretty much covers it.
If you agree that the team was set up to get the best out of him then I must say I was not impressed as much. With the team playing to his strengths I feel he should have been better than he was seeing as he thinks he is already too good for us. Raheem at his flying best is still not as good as he thinks he is, loads of potential though.
Yep loads of potential. He still can't shoot for shît, his decision making isn't always good and he there's still a lack of end product. If he wants to go to bigger club then he needs to improve a lot. He does think he he's better than he actually is. He started to believe the hype.
I think people are just upset he wants to leave and thus have changed their opinions to be unfavourable towards his talent.
Agreed.
I was a little underwhelmed by Sterling throughout the season if I am honest but I don't like bashing players who are at the club because I want them all to do well no matter what I think will happen, unless they clearly want to leave which frees me from my illogical sense of loyalty. This might not make sense to some but there you go.

I'm not upset. I very rarely allow football to upset me nowadays. I'm certainly not upset that Sterling wants to leave . Suarez, Alonso, Torres, Mascherano; they were massive losses, Sterling isn't for me so why would I be upset. I don't rate Sterling as highly as others do. He's a good player but he's not yet a great player. He could be if he makes the right decisions. Him leaving may be a great decision and he may go from strength to strength or it could hinder his progress. Who knows. We're losing raw potential at this stage.
Only light rumours but Atletico seemingly wanting to replace Mandzukic, he could leave. Yay or Nay?
Could do a lot worse imo.

To replace Lambert maybe. However we need a first team striker to fit in with how we play.

I think the team was setup to get the best out of Rodgers style of play. Which is possession based, high pressing and quick transitions from the front players.
Sterling was just the obvious choice to lead the line because of his movement, which is very good for a 20yr old. He gets into great positions but his end product lets him down. It'll come though.
