Personal opinion from what I've seen of both of them. And no not just youtube.

salvio looks good.. but can he play through the middle too? a winger/striker is fine in the diamond as it allows them to drift wide..

or are we going for 4-3-3 again.. in which case marko and ibe become more relevant, however it never ever works for us..

We will need a pretty big overhaul of players if we to play 4-3-3 as it has been utterly useless with the current crop of players.

We need two new full backs, a DM, a centre back, a striker and another box to box midfielder for 4-3-3.

Skrtel and Sakho can't play together in a 2, or at least they are making hard work of it.

Moreno can't defend at left back, we haven't got a first team right back.

Lucas isn't a starter at DM.

Can't rely on Sturridge (if he can even play centre in a 4-3-3 which hasn't been proven).

Allen doesn't do enough to compete with Hendo and Can for the two other centre mid spots.

That's why I don't agree with people who say 'with a fit striker we would have been alright'.

We have had a lot more problems this season than being solved by a fit striker.

Because we have a bigger squad than last year?

Not really.

It's not about the same starting 11 every game.

You need 22 players you can trust.

Rodgers appears to trust about 5 of his, and a couple of those are ones he didn't sign.

A bigger squad should have ensured we had more depth for whatever our chosen way of playing was.

In the end that didn't happen.

We couldn't function in numerous ways of playing and when we did find a way of playing it left us with no depth from the rest and so falling apart as soon as one or two key ones in that style weren't available.

We've got a lot of deadwood/not good enough players now which needs to be sorted out before we bring players in.

You can't wait for the deadwood to go before buying.

Out of contract players have gone.
Enrique and Kolo will be released too.
Jones will depart
Balotelli will go on loan because no one else will be stupid ebough to buy him on those wages
Borini and Lambert will find buyers
Joe Allen can always go back to Swansea
Lovren will probably get abother season.

Kolo might sign a new one year deal.

I'd keep Toure on unless we are gonna give Ilori fourth choice. No point buying another centre back. Skrtel and Sakho can actually play in a two as they did last season when we finished second and as they have down throughout their careers. Lovren will likely get a season to prove himself. If there was a first choice defender available then Rodgers may have something to think about in regards to Lovren but we won't be able to keep four centre backs happy who all have been used to starting games.

Too much chopping and changing in defence throughout Rodgers' time, either due to injuries or poor form. We need to get stability there.

Hmm if Kolo is staying I wonder what the plans are for Ilori. Could there be an opportunity for him in EL games or will be play Kolo and Lovren?

Thats re-writing history to a point..

Sakho and skrtel were one of just 5 partnerships we tried last season, and was statistically the worst of the lot.

and prior to this season people were writing sakho off as a result, loads wanted lovren to replace the 18mill wasted on sakho..

Skrtel was great in a 3, seriously one of our top players, but in a two the last three years skrtel has been poor that wont change.

As for other defensive positions, moreno could be great, he probably needs competition to push him that might be flanno, he might be the answer to our lack of ANY recognised right backs..

we do need a DM.. and probably two strikers, if we have the intention of playing the diamond.

for 4-3-3 we probably need one other striker and a winger (salvio was mentioned in a thread earlier, and seems like he would be a good shout)

Skrtel and Sakho have never been convincing.

Everyone knows we didn't finish 2nd because of defensive solidity. We finished 2nd inspite of defensive instability.

A DM would help, but I struggle to see us winning anything with a Skrtel/Sakho pairing.

The only time we've been convincing defensively is when we played 3 at the back with Can-Skrtel-Sakho but that got found out after 10 games and opposition found weaknesses in it.

Sakho is the best option at the moment because he's young and proven to an extent, but I don't think I'll be confident with him in a partnership with any of Strtel, Lovren, Can, Coates or Ilori.

I think Lovren and Sakho is the way to go. On paper it works but we do need a defensively mobile and astute midfielder. Maybe two. I think Can and Henderson could work and I'd like to see someone like Witzel or Kondogbia behind them although the latter might not be as good a fit for that role. Surprised Witzel doesn't get mentioned more tbh. Think he'd be perfect.

I know there are valid reasons for letting the likes of Johnson, Enrique and Toure go but it means there is an awful lot to do in the market this summer. We literally won't have a RB. We could keep Wisdom and Manquillo but I don't think he likes Wisdom and for me Manquillo isn't a prem rb.

That's before we get a striker.

I'm not sure there is a way back for Lovren.

Has a player ever had such a terrible debut season and recovered at the same club?

We need a confident and dominant partner for Sakho but where we find one I have no idea.

I like Skrtel but if him or Sakho have to be dropped then it's Skrtel.

Ilori will go on loan again. He's not ready for us, couldn't hold down a spot in a poor Bordeaux team.

Toure is staying for another year. I still think he is decent back up. I think someone on here said they would cry if we bought another CB, I probably would as well.

Forgot to say we have to persist with faith in Lovren.

We just got to make sure when Bolasie plays that Lovren is no way near the pitch. If there was ever a mismatch in a football field then it was that duel.

I had the same thought. I'm fine with Rodgers getting a chance next season but if things are looking bad by January something needs to change.

Next season is all about the Europa League for me.

I don't see how we can finish in the top 4.

Unless we pull some unexpected signings out of the bag.

We have to go all out to win the Europa whoever is manager.

Can't see us winning the Europa and that's not me being a pessimist.

Look at our squad, the only players in it that have experience with Liverpool in Europe are Skrtel and Lucas and outside of that there aren't many with much experience with other teams. European football whether it be Champions League or Europa is completely different to League football.

If we qualify we'll be one of the better sides so should do reasonably well but I'd see reaching the Quarter Finals as good progress. A Semi Final or even the Final would be an amazing achievement.
