I think you need to take into account the situation of clubs across Europe this summer as well. Real Madrid are getting Rafa and with the exception of City (who may or may not keep Pellegrini, indications are they may give him another season) there arent any top clubs that need a new manager.

If City do keep Pellegrini, without sounding too arrogant, we would probably be top of the list for any managers looking for a club in Europe. It's not often this situation occurs, and it could be a long time until it happens again. Could be our best chance to get a top manager into the club for a long time. Ancelotti would be unlikely but I don't see why we couldn't convince Klopp.

His agent because I recognise he is a better manager than Rodgers, and has proved it?

He must have a lot of agents.

Exactly Neo.

It's a market place and the time looks right for us to upgrade.

Especially with FFP set to be relaxed soon.

I hate all this talk of klopp...

he had a similar situation at bayern this year, minus the sterling contract distraction, and fared worse in a league that only has one other top team.

Hes not the saviour, he might be able to attract a big name or two, how is winning the league a few years while LVG was busy fúcking up bayern any achievement? its like taking chelsea arsenal and man city out the prem. United would have been best of a bad bunch.

Rodgers earnt himself another chance last year, but i would stick a DoF above him, if he decides to leave let him, and bring de boer in. seems to have more about himself than klopp, and with a decent DoF we would be fine

---

Another dreamer.

When has Rodgers got to a CL final?

When has Rodgers knocked out Real Madrid over 2 legs?

When has Rodgers beat Chelsea 5-2 in a cup final?

This Klopp belittling is getting ridiculous.

Rodgers hasn't done anything in his career to even be spoken about in the same breath as Klopp.

It's like an Everton fan saying Moyes was as good as Rafa.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Im no dreamer, and i take offence at that to be honest.

I want rodgers IN, but only if he swallows his pride and accepts an experienced guiding hand.

if he WONT accept that, then de boer for me, is the man. although i do appreciate klopps modern/futuristic training approaches (footbonaut) and think he could have a revoloutionary affect on the game here, similar to when wenger joined arsenal

either of those two would accept a DoF as in their current setups, and i think its time english football cottoned on to the fact that splitting the job down the middle and getting somebody who specialises in the two distinct roles works well!

gone are the fergusons who can do everything

I think Klopp was very much in charge of transfers in Dortmund

I mean in terms of selecting players.

which most managers with a DoF do have a large input to.

any dof/head coach relationship that works well will generally target the same players..

He worked hand in hand with the chairman guy...not a DOF.

I could be wrong though.

Id not be confident in rodgers with a DOF. If anything we need to start highlighting where we are going wrong with transfers and if things went pear shaped next year that would only go to further confuse things. It's hard to pinpoint where the blame lies with the transfer policy but I refuse to believe that Rodgers hasn't had at least a say in all the transfers we have made.

Give the job to a top manager like Klopp and give him full control in deciding who we target, then over to the board to negotiate to get those players within the clubs means.

Basically like Brendan would say "go get this player" and Ayre will take care of the contractual stuff.

Michael zorc is the dortmund Director of football (although his title is director of sport, it is the same role)

posted on 25/5/15

Incidentally he played 600 games for dortmund in his 17 seasons at the club...

Oh and de boer works under marc overmars, director of football, an ajax club legend...

I agree with the DOF/Coach set up but don't believe Rodgers is the guy to be the coach.

He didn't want it before so is unlikely to do it now even if his job was on the line.

He would probably quit and blame the owners.

Rodgers needs a DOF imo.

Although twitter people mentioned something about Fallows being promised the DOF role if we adapted that structure. Seems like another inexperienced head pulling strings...which is where we're going wrong.

We need some experience behind the scenes.

posted on 25/5/15

To be fair we had loads of experience in Commoli and Dalglish and that didn't work right either.

Whatever the likes of Sevilla, Southampton do we need to start taking notice.

They are getting a hell of a lot more for their money than we are.

posted on 25/5/15

See i think commoli did alright..

managed to attract and identify suarez, bale etc.

henderson hasnt been bad, downing wasnt good, but in terms of recovered money he wasnt awful..

carroll was a ridiculously bad knee jerk that probably cost him his head so to speak, but he also bought in a lot of the promising youth we have breaking through, ibe for one.

its a shame that commoli's one big feck up outweighed his good.. same with his time at spurs the good outweighed the bad, and they continued to make good profit on his signings after he left..

before winning the cup last year, the last time arsenal had won a trophy was the year commoli had left after being head scout for wenger..

he really does have a good record, so im not sure where this bad impression entirely comes from !!!

The only problem with the traditional DoF structure is that we have no real club legends who will have the pull required in europe/with players to offset the lack of pull offered by rodgers.

the reason its generally a club legend is because they sit on the board and sort of, give a voice to thge fans in regards to whats best for the club, rather than the owners on the board.

Reports in Portugal linking us to Eduardo Salvio, I've only seen bits of him in the Europa League but could be a good option to replace Sterling with. 9 Goals and 10 Assists in 29 Apps for Benfica this season from a wide position

He has a €60m buyout clause but could be sold for €35m because Benfica need money for the summer.
That's pretty much £25m for a 24 year old winger.

posted on 25/5/15

At least Salvio has a lot of experience for his age.

Wingers though

He burnt his bridges with us...worse than Sterling.
