here's a man who knows
He unwraps his gifts pranksy, it's lush, and he takes every single one to his bed as soon as the paper is off and spends time exploring it for squeakers or seeing if it's soft enough for nursing on (he nurses on his toys when hes tired until he falls asleep )

My dog gets plenty of toys and treats all year round. Having a birthday party for a dog is mad and nothing but a self serving act 👍

There is no wrongs to a doggie birthday party, it's a fun excuse for a gathering and a few beers
Term is just basically admitting his dog suffers neglect and a lack of affection.

I’ve noticed you use the word ‘khunt’ quite often, mainly to myself. I’m not sure mummy and daddy would be very happy if they knew their little Timmy was such a potty mouth. Though I suspect you only ‘speak’ to people like this online, little weasels like yourself wouldn’t do so in ‘real life’.
I think having a birthday party for a dog is daft, it’s just my opinion. It is a self serving act, because there’s no possible way a dog can know that it’s his birthday, it’s a scientific fact. I didn’t abuse anyone over it, yet good old Fred comes on with his usual insult.
Lastly, if you are anywhere near the person you are on here, I would wager that you would get far more punches than myself out in the real world. I am what I am, a straightforward honest person. You’re a snide little shiite stirrer 👍

I know (I think!) your comments are tongue in cheek, I just don’t go in for ‘gimmicky’ things in all aspects of my life. It makes me feel like I’m giving in to commercialisation
Whilst we’re on the subject then, I’m getting a dog later in the year (waiting until we finish work on the house) and were looking at getting a Spinone. The traits of the breed seem to be what we’re looking for (primary focus, must be good with children) but I have no actual experience with the breed - never seen one.
Anyone have any Spinone experience?

Just had to google it Obviously I have no idea with them, but if the primary focus for you is a family dog then maybe just go for the more traditional breeds that are well known for this?? It also depends on how much time you’re willing to spend training them. The Spinone seems to be bred for working and these can take a lot of man hours to be properly trained. I think it’s something that people with no previous experience seriously underestimate.
I know some people like the idea of getting something different, but that can often leads to problems further down the line. After all, why are these breeds not already popular??? Your best bet imo, is write down what you all want and expect from owning a dog, and speak to an ‘expert’ and get their advice on what breeds are best for you. I come across people all the time who say they’re thinking of getting a dog and I say to them they need to know 100% what they’re getting themselves into. It’s amazing how many people are completely unprepared for this.
It all seems a bit silly as the dog has no way of knowing but as Irish says in typical Irishman fashion , any excuse for a piiss up works for me.

Weirdly that’s kind of what we did - our neighbour is a breeder (not of Spinone) and also shows dogs (Crufts etc); we spoke to her about what we were looking for in terms of size and traits. She suggested more common breeds but also said we might want to look at Spinone’s.
We’ve not made up our minds yet (hence the interest in anyone who has experience of one) but whichever way we go, we’re absolutely committed to spending a huge amount of time training in the early years. The payback over the life of the dog is unquestionably worth it IMO.

I grew up with labs and retrievers, lovely dogs. I have a (slightly weird) thing about not wanting to recreate my childhood for my kids though so I’m not keen on getting either. Staffies are great dogs, one of my in-laws has a staffie and a rottie, both impeccably trained and they are amazing. Sadly what puts me off is the reaction they get from other people. Maybe I shouldn’t be concerned about that but I am a bit - I wouldn’t want people to worry about their kids coming to play with our kids.
