Patrick Bamford: "It's amazing the amount of uproar when somebody's pocket is being hurt. It's a shame that this doesn't happen with issues like racism."

----------------------------------------------------------------------
The destruction of the sport is more important than being called the N word by some basement dwelling yank who made his anonymous twitter account for the exact purpose of trolling and getting a reaction. Jesus Christ can racism campaigners go one second without being the center of attention.

Sport is not being destructed. It is evolving albeit in a way we may not like but come what August and a home fixture against Barcelona, Anfield will be packed

Agreed, but the government will make sure covid restrictions don't allow full stadia!

Exactly. It's the modern day, it's just adapting to what has been continuing for the last 30 years. This was always going to happen in some form, I think it's more the way it has happened and the way the clubs are going about it are wrong.

But I can guarantee that these local fans or communities will not be moaning when the clubs have managed to improve the local area and community in 10 years time and parents/grandparents are able to accessibly send their children/grandchildren to football camps organised by Man City, Man United, Liverpool etc because they have further finances to be accessible to more children. This could happen in all parts of the world as well.

People moaned about the European Cup changing all those years ago. People still call for it to go back to that format now. That'll never happen. The Euros has gone from 4, 8, 16, 24 teams in it's history. World Cup started with 13 then had 16 for years until it went to 24, 32 and now up to 48. Things change, and dare I say people still tune in to the Euros and World Cup.

Yes but aside of hosts and previous winners there are no guaranteed spots at any of those competitions. It's not like England, Germany, Holland and Brazil clubbed together to create a new world cup and ensured they had guaranteed qualification is it.

That's because the product is the people, not the actual sport. Find new ways to keep the people glued and they will stay glued. We're a consumer society. Have been for hundreds of years. That doesn't change overnight.

Nah in his initial reaction Neville probably mentioned Utd once, Arsenal once and then went on a rampage against LFC, the owners and even the fans and our anthem ffs.

He can choke on a thousand diiicks
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Fack the caant. He went on a tirade and brought the anthem into it. What has the anthem to do with all this. He found a way to attack the club with cheap shots.

And this is surely the issue that people have most of all? People keep talking about change....I have no issue with any changes. Even if they're mainly done for financial benefit. What must always be maintained is the sporting integrity that ANYONE can play in them and that nobody is guaranteed to remain in that competition no matter what just because they have more fans/ are more successful in years gone by.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This is my problem with it and why I'm so furious at the entitled nature of the club. Over the past 20 years we've not exactly been ever present in the CL and are unlikely to quality this year and deservedly so.

Getting rid of that and having privileged status for 75% of the participants of a competition is an utter joke and an insult to every other club in Europe.

Not something I want any part of.

I loved the old format and hated the CL at that time but in later years I realised the change was inevitable.

Obviously the issue from the Super League's perspective though is that, if any of the 12 founding members were to get relegated, who then funds that league? If Liverpool got relegated, would they heavily fund something they aren't in? That's the moral issue though.

Still hoping it doesn't go ahead or if it does go ahead has some sporting integrity but if it does go ahead as planned I'm just not interested.

I guess you guys can be safe in the knowledge whilst watching your football games in China and Dubai at stupid o clock in the morning that at least you don't have to chat to Fred.

Think this is right and is probably why personally I'm having a bit of a hard time with the concept.

It's not the change I dislike, CL being refreshed could be really positive. I also don't mind the clubs challenging UEFA/FIFA, in fact I like that. I don't even mind that the primary driver is money.

What I dislike is the FU to the legacy fans. The simple fact that the sport and club I've loved for 40 years just isn't for me anymore. They're more interested in a different generation, a different demographic.

And I have two choices; I either accept it for what it is or disengage (to a greater or lesser extent). I didn't watch the game last night, I have Sky but just really wasn't in the mood for football.

I've no issue with changing the format of European football and I also don't like UEFA or FIFA. What I really hate about it is the 'founding club' arrogance

What annoys me even more about the ESL and it's comparisons to the American models is that they've taken the worst parts of the American model and combined it with the worst parts of the European model.

In American sports because of the draft system, salary caps or luxury taxes etc there is no ever present team in the playoffs and it fluctuates year on year. In baseball the Rays and the Athletics are two of the poorest clubs and they can consistently make the playoffs because of the way draft picks, farm systems and player contracts work.

Yes it's a closed shop over there and I hate the fact it allows clubs to just tank in a given season (Cleveland Browns lost every game in a season recently, Baltimore Orioles lost 114 games from 162 a couple of years ago for example) but as you're starting to see with the Browns and will see with the Orioles is that they rise to the top again and it's always cyclical.

This model has none of those positives.
