Yeah, there should be promotion and relegation IMO but I don't feel like that's the main reason people are up in arms.

It's as good as, every change to the CL format is being done to ensure the participation of the best supported clubs,
Seedings are done to ensure the participation in the latter stages of the best supported clubs
Preventing countries teams from meeting each other in certain stages is done to ensure strong teams don't knock each other out
And whilst I know only 12 clubs have come out as founding members, there are 15 in the frame, and since Porto every single CL trophy has been won by one of them. Every final contested by them.
If you are happier and can sleep better at night with a perceived fairness, or the believed ability for some Roy of the rovers type glory then perhaps it's time to grow up.
The ESL is just being honest about itself, and ensuring that a corrupt international organisation can't keep coining in as a result of the club's businesses and success.

It's not even that well hidden, it will happen in the next update to the CL too, two slots for the biggest teams that failed in their league the previous season.
That means we don't even need to finish fourth in the league if we ensure that we get to the knockout rounds each year, which of course we will as top seeds, ensured that we won't face any of the other top teams.
It's like you are all willfully blind to the reality. Those changes alone make the league less significant if they were in place this year ourselves and Chelsea would currently occupy them..
Suddenly no pressure to finish fourth eh?

I’m not sure there are really ‘esl defenders’ on here. It seems you’re taking the stance of you're either with us or against us, ie if you don’t totally condemn it then you must be a staunch supporter. That’s pretty lame, not everyone’s as dramatical as people like yourself and I don’t know why you have such a problem with people who are basically waiting to see what actually happens.

Basically UEFA have been the architects of their own downfall with these latest changes. The clubs have been waiting for the right opportunity to announce this and UEFA have handed it to them on a plate.
I don’t care what anyone says, these latest changes are a gross manipulation of the qualification criteria. Plenty of fans complained that even qualifying via the top four was a sham, now the sixth place team could conceivably qualify.
Chelsea have bottled it. That’ll be the end of it now.
Shame on FSG. They needed Chelsea but they have dropped out and City will follow soon after meaning ESL is dead.
