We won't spend in January, we very rarely do.
=======

Not true. Again.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
20/21 - £2m on Ben Davies
19/20 - £7m on Minamino
18/19 - £0
17/18 - £75m on VVD
16/17 - £0
15/16 - £6m on Grujic
14/15 - £0
13/14 - £0
12/13 - £25m on Sturridge and Coutinho
11/12 - £100k on Danny Ward.

Not exactly big spenders in January are we. We've spent on first team quality players only twice in the last 9 years unless you count Grujuc, Davies and Minamino as first team quality.

Taken from transfermarkt.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

So more than half of them. That might be the first time I've ever seen someone prove themselves wrong by accident. Kudos.

Ben Davies, Ward and Grujic have played a combined 10 league appearances for Liverpool, we very rarely make impactful signings in January.

You cannot argue that point.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Sometimes it's just best to hold your hands up bud.

I mean you've been asking for back up, which is exactly the kind of signing Minamino was, although it's not worked out great.

What you said just isnt true. Not even close. It's not even up for debate.

We signed Kabak on loan too FWIW.

Ok fine robbing, we're huge spenders in January and likely to make a big splash in January as we do it more often than not.

Nuance is completely lost on you.

Saying 'We won't spend in January, we very rarely do.' is a blatant mistruth.

You can get as sarcastic and salty as you like, it's not my fault you write silly things on the internet.

I'd imagine we also spent on supplies for the canteen too, so yeah boy how wrong I was.

Find it funny when people complain we should have added a few more signings, and that we have had three lean years..

This summer : Konate

Last year Jota, Thiago, Tsikmas, Davies and Kabak on loan

Year prior: Mina, Adrian, Van den Berg

Year before that: Alisson, Fabinho, Keita, Shaq

And before that (17/18) VVD, Ox, Salah, Robbo

16/17: Mane, Wij, Karius, Klavan, Matip.

Literally one season where we have signed one player, and we still have January to go.

It's almost like every signing doesn't work out?

So when you categorically state that "Everyone around us has improved" you are lieing, just as when everyone said it the year after we won the CL they were wrong.

Moaning because of the following signings:

Arsenal:
Gabriel Martinelli (Ituano) Undisclosed Details
Dani Ceballos (Real Madrid) Loan Details
William Saliba (Saint-Etienne) Undisclosed Details
Nicolas Pepe (Lille) Undisclosed Details
Kieran Tierney (Celtic) Undisclosed Details
David Luiz (Chelsea) Undisclosed Details

Chelsea:
Mateo Kovacic (Real Madrid) Undisclosed Details

City:
Angelino (PSV Eindhoven) Undisclosed Details
Rodri (Atletico Madrid) Undisclosed Details
Joao Cancelo (Juventus) Undisclosed Details
Scott Carson (Derby County) Loan Details

United:
Daniel James (Swansea City) Undisclosed Details
Aaron Wan-Bissaka (Crystal Palace) Undisclosed Details
Harry Maguire (Leicester City) Undisclosed Details

Spurs:
Kion Etete (Notts County) Undisclosed Details
Jack Clarke (Leeds) Undisclosed Details
Tanguy Ndombele (Lyon) Undisclosed Details
Giovani Lo Celso (Real Betis) Loan Details
Ryan Sessegnon (Fulham) Undisclosed Details
Michel Vorm (Unattached) Free Details

Clearly they all turned in to worldies, given how ANY transfer is a clear squad improvement in the eyes of many fans here.

I don’t really get the criticism that we’re failing to build for the future either. Last season Jones was brought into the squad, this season it’s Elliott and Konate, whilst Gordon will likely be involved at some point too. So that’s three players who weren’t seen last season, who have a huge chance of becoming mainstays in the side for years to come. Seems like pretty solid foundations to me…..

I think adding two/three players a year is a solid strategy myself, in keeping the team solid and a cohesive unit.

When you go back through the list I posted, and consider the players who were signed in January windows I suspect klopp/FSG feel the same.

I really don't get the whining, we could have paid £40m for raphina, who might have been 2nd/3rd choice like in the Rodgers years, and he could have been dross. There is no way of knowing after all, and as a result next year we might have needed to sell to buy the original first choice.

I'm confident that klopp and the committee will continue to get it right

Raphina is a funny one. Never a realistic signing, Leeds were never going to sell him after one season and I’ve not seen one reasonable source that suggested we have any interest in him anyway. Yet some are treating it as a missed opportunity. Odd.

The long and short of it is, squad wise, that we've lost Shaqiri and Kabak and added Konate and Elliot. I see that as an upgrade myself.

I'd definitely like us to bring in someone but we're in good form with a good squad and have a great manager.

Good time to be a Liverpool fan that's for sure.

I'm still going to maintain this was done a year previous with the signing of Thiago, who is an upgrade on Gjini imo.

People complain about not pushing the boat out for players, yet the club moved 12 months earlier to secure the signing of someone who could have potentially signed a new deal with Bayern or signed for somebody else on a free transfer if left until January and onwards.

I'm not basing this on any fact that I know of, it's just my opinion of that situation. I just feel as if the club moved earlier to secure the signing of Thiago whilst he was available to replace Gjini in 12 months.

Let's be honest, the club will know if a player is likely to leave 12 months before they do, especially in a situation where somebody only has 12 months left on their deal. The Gjini situation will have been decided long before it was ever officially announced.

Pretty much. Gini made it known he wasn’t going to sign a new contract, so we signed Thiago to allow him time to bed in.

Dunno what all the flapping is about re Gini.

Klopp was fine with it, contract is bi-lateral, he gave his all and we all moved on.

posted on 6/9/21

Agree with the above, also feel the loss of Gini will be covered by having Fabinho and hendo playing their correct positions this season, as well as keita, Jones and Elliot getting more minutes on the pitch.

Quite, kinda supports the idea that not all signings improve you, and sometimes it's better to wait for your first choice players, eh?

Signings for the sake of signings is exactly what fecked Rodgers up

Well, we could have saved it to put towards him I guess, but then people would have biiiitched and moaned..

Of course we won the league that season, so it all worked out well in my opinion.

posted on 6/9/21

Also I think the ill feelings stem from the fact that we sold Lovren and made the decision not to replace him saying that we had adequate cover and could also move Fabinho back if needed...then low and behold the entire central defence was out.

This season we know we need some sort of cover for the front 3 and Jota...then you factor in that Klopp does not trust the back up and we know for a fact that 2 or those 4 will be away...yet we still take the same risk

That's what really is getting to the fans...not the lack of signings...the lack of good proactive decision making.
