Not quite understanding this deal if true. Sign a worse player for the left hand side than the one we have and lose a centre back, who's versatility has got us out of a hole on numerous occasions, in the process.

I do agree with this and especially my concern at left back cos Robbo is looking old now and he is getting injuries and I am just not convinced with Tsimikas.

Unless there is a plan for a left back then selling Gomez does not make sense.

Maybe we have sell and buy this summer.

Gomez really isn’t that good. Yes, he’s versatile, but he’s bang average in every position. He’s had some but if firm and that’s it, there’s also a chance he wants to go.

Gordon, for me, will score more goals and provide more assists than Diaz. He’ll also end up a batter player too, imo.

He's also injury prone. Had a good season but hasn't demonstrated long term reliability. Signings cannot all happen at the same time. So long as there's a plan to bring in a CB(better than Gomez) and a DM then it will be excellent work IMO.

So apparently Gordon is valued at 75m and Gomez at 45m. If that was true or close to the truth it would be a great deal IMO.

Personally I could see Gomez wanting to go. I don’t agree with him being bang average in every position. At his best he’s a very good defender, we had some of our best defensive performances with him partnering VVD. But he’s become unreliable both in terms of fitness and form. I think at 27 years old be probably needs to be a first choice CB for someone and arguably he would be for the majority of EPL teams. Unfortunately we’re probably one of the teams that’s he’s not. He may well be 4th choice for us.

I know a lot of people rate Gordon, I’m one of those yet to be convinced tbh. I think he’s an above average EPL winger but I’m just not sure I see him as someone who helps bridge the gap to City. If Diaz wants out then maybe but it would be a transfer I would have my fingers crossed for rather than be excited about.

Gordon has some dark arts about him which is something we lack. Our forward line is too nice when sometimes the better option is to go down and win the pen or free kick. Mane was brilliant at winning fouls and pens.

He will never have the skill level of Diaz but he gets in the box and puts up numbers.

75 is pretty decent in this current crazy market.

Gordon is a good player if you want to play in transition.
I have my doubts about whether he can do it against low block teams.

Newcastle have to play against a low block all the time???

Anyway, I like Gordon, always have, and he’s a red apparently which is always good in my book. If I had to have a HG place taken up, I’d rather have Gordon on the books than Gomez.

Gomez has had better than average spells, under Klopp, playing next to VVD, twice in best part of a decade.

It’s a good move for everyone if it happens imo.

Wharton is the player I would like us to sign. I don't need two seasons of a sample size to know he is quality on and off the ball.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

He has played in 16 Premier League games ever.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He's good though, can't deny it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I like the look of him too, but he’s played 1305 prem minutes, rarely on the TV, and was then thrust into the England squad. To then go to the most successful club in England, fighting for the league and CL, it’s massive.

I mean if we signed him I’d be happy for sure, depending on the price, I don’t see us picking up many more points with him as our first choice DM at this stage, which for £50m he’d have to be.

Also, is he that much better than Bajcetic? I don’t know but if I’m thinking it, Edwards will be.

I’d like some signings now too, and yeah it’d be great if they were signed, settled and had a pre-season, but that’s football and these are five year contracts.

“If I’m thinking it, Edward’s will be…”

Haha on reflection that sounds terrible

I just mean it’s obvious

I did have a little chuckle when I first read it

We had to wait 8 years for him to stay relatively injury free for one season, and that was last season where he was very useful to us. He did well and entering his prime but overall i think hes a bit of an average joe, this market probably worth around 40-50m himself rofl. Obviously injury issues, last season doesnt decrease the risk much for a buyer imo hes still someone you'd class as injury prone.

Yep spot on TOOR. Either we overvalue Gordon massively or undervalue Gomez massively. Shocking business if we do it in my opinion.

Gomez is not a 45m player. Happy to lose him for that. Sick of injury prone players.

Looks like the Gomez news is old news just like the Endo news is old news but we are releasing it now with the usual PR journalists to cause some sort of diversion.

posted on 31/7/24

It's why I'm not fussed about our lack of activity so far because all news coming out seems to be a week or two behind.

We'll probably have a Fabinho-esque signing where he's holding the shirt a few hours after the news drops.

Seems odd that we were willing to sell Gomez despite being told that Slot needs to see every player in training before making a decision.
