I don't think you understand the Rooney rule. Its about getting an interview. The directors can reject the candidate. They don't have to appoint a black manger if they don't want to. However the interview process is opened up. And that way those interviewing can't just appoint their best m8 down the pub. It helps all candidates, black or not because the process is forced to be above board.

I would fire anyone who has already decided before the interview that the candidate is not good enough. How the feck would they know unless they have given them a fair go and at least talked to them.
These are very senior positions. This is not some shelf stacker in the local supermarket you can employ from their CV. Thats why I talked abt experience of a board room. People in senior positions have to go through a proper due diligence process and sometimes job of recruiting those at senior levels are outsourced to recruitment consultants. All except for football it seems which is a closed shop.
Frankly its their job to find the best candidate and have a proper process. And if they have that as a lot of top clubs do there should be no problem with the Rooney rule.
Fairness could be achieved if everyone is forced to conceal their ethinicity by conducting their interviews with a sheet over their head.
....oh no, hang on that could be really taken the wrong way.
Yeah, maybe just get the interviewers to wear blindfolds, I think it would be a little too unsettling for a black candidate to walk into to a room of men with sheets on their heads.
That will hugely disadvantage those that look good but sound funny.....
Like Beckham for example!
Does anyone think a chairman is not gonna appoint a black manager who is better than a white manager based on skin color in this day and age

What you don't seem to understand is that's one small part of this.
The idea that skin colour is affecting those chosen for management positions can and does also relate to why there are so few qualified black managers applying for these jobs.
Winston, there are very few qualified black managers in the first place. Why should all 30 qulaified, black managers be employed and the 400 or 500 (I don't know these statistics by the way, these are estimates based on vague memories from the various threads this week) be overlooked so that 100% of black managers are in jobs, and a tiny percentage of white?
Robben van Persie - He Schcores When He Wantsh (U1145)
I'm sorry if this seems rude, but is no one reading my posts?
Why is the focus on chairmen choosing the existing black managers over white managers?
Has no one stopped to think that perhaps the problem starts earlier than that?
What I mean is; why are there only 30 qualified black managers and 500 white managers?
Racism and prejudice is not just about one person not choosing someone based on his skin colour.
Winston, I agree my good man. As I have said on countless threads this week.
The lack of black pro coaches/managers is due to the lack of ex-pros taking their qualifications.
As we've discussed at length, the number of black players in the game now should not reflect the number of qualified black coaches - it will filter through in the next 10 years or so, I believe
Robben van Persie - He Schcores When He Wantsh (U1145)
Possibly, but as we saw yesterday, the numbers didn't really tally.
I have long since said that people need to recognise that this country is still recovering from historical prejudice.
Even if we eliminated racial prejudice entirely, we would still be left with communities that suffer from a disadvantage, due to historical events.
It's my opinion that those issues are the ones that see less black people into politics, banking, football management etc. - more so than actual prejudice in the workplace.
OK, anyway. I think all that can be said on the subject, has been.
