Oooh. I have their albums and have heard some songs but have never really been drawn in. Thought they were decent songs though

I really can't think of a single band similar to them tbh. Also, they aren't just good they are the best band of the past ten years by quite a distance. Everything they've touched since their album Alligator has been a masterpiece. Their EP, Cherry Tree, and their album before that, Sad Songs..., are also great although not as good as their last four albums.
Im listening to them now and tbh it sounds quite average. Very safe. Not a challenge which is what I generally look for.
Not saying it isnt good but it just....doesnt seem to take any worthwhile risks or push art in any direction.

A bit of modern Springsteen, Leonard Cohen....if I were to pick out on the positives. Not sure Springsteen would be positive for everyone.
But the chord progressions bring him into my mind.
Listen to them more, you don't just them on a single listen. They are anything but safe
