Disagree. Kid A is better.

Four Tet - Rounds

Listening to Four Tet with earphones in is a feast for the ears and the brain.
Kid A is just too out there for me. I do like some of it though.
The only reason In Rainbows doesn't have any stand out tracks, is because they're ALL standout tracks.
If you see what I mean...
Kanye - 808s and Heartbreak was also very very underrated when it came out. It's, in my opinion, one of the most influential Hip-Hop albums along with Illmatic.
The album shaped so many popular rappers career of this decade. (Drake, Kid Cudi, Childish Gambino)

Tbf i didn't think they would ever top OK Computer, and actually didnt rate Kid A initially. Persisted and saw the light. It wasnt just a backlash on their success.

There were some good albums by Kasabian, Artic Monkeys and The Libertines and the media were desperate for a second coming of "Britpop" but it never happened, not enough bands of sufficient quality IMO.
_____________________________
I honestly think you can trace this back as far as 1997 and the reaction to the good, but by no means brilliant, Urban Hymns. For me this was the "zeitgeist" of the years 2000-2009: trying to evoke the previous decade's zeitgeist. I agree with the poster above who said The Strokes were pretty average. I think Franz Ferdinand were probably the best of what I consider a generation of "nearly men".
----------------------------------------------------------------------
There's no doubt the media were desperate to push indie bands on us, but I think the reason it really died out or was nipped in the bud druing the early 00's was down to dance music and American "hip-hop" becoming far more influential
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Agree with both, it seemed like any new band was hyped as the next big thing, the "era-defining" band you MUST listen too who just weren't all that.
I'm thinking of the likes of Embrace, Razorlight, The Kooks, Kaiser Cheifs, The Script, Hard-Fi (I did like Living for the Weekend though .
Then there was Kate Nash, Lilly Allen, Jamie T, mockney-speak-singing sh**.

Rewind, Fill Me In and Rendez-Vous were played at EVERY party I went to when I was 15-16.
Play by Moby was everywhere as well, great album, as was Elephant by The White Stripes.

Right.
OK Computer for me is the superior album. But that's no disgrace for Kid A; I have not heard any album that genuinely challenges OK Computer for sheer originality and musical expertise. I have watched and loved the films of David Lynch, read, studied and taught the literature of Shakespeare, Larkin, T. S. Eliot, Dickens and many others; appreciated some of the great classical music. Honestly, none of those amaze me more than OK Computer - I simply cannot believe that human hands made it. It's as simple as that.
Kid A is phenomenal. No other band could have made OK Computer, let alone followed it. I have never heard a braver CD in my entire life than Kid A. To abandon melody - as, by their own admission, they did - and make rhythm and texture the focus, and still make something as wonderful as Kid A was a quite incredible achievement. "Everything in its Right Place" is just effortlessly cool even though it barely has a tune.
But OK Computer still wins it for me. Just out of this world.
Get a room
They had been writing "Nude" since the OK Computer days. Think it was called Big Boots before. Preferred the 2 other early versions I had heard to what they eventually released.
