Clockwork mentioned it already but

Gorillaz - Demon Days

A very good album

'Another good album from this time that I've forgotten is the one by Gorillaz that had "Dirty Harry" and "Dare" on it.'

Demon Days

Muse - Black Holes and Revelations (also Absolution and Origin of Symmetry)
QOTSA - Songs for the Deaf and Era Vulgaris
The Tallest Man on Earth - The Wild Hunt (2010, I know it's listed but technically that's a new decade )

For me you just arent ever going to have one of those bands ever again. A band that owns an era or whatever. Radio and the music industry has changed too drastically. They arent providing music for listeners. Theyre playing for their sponsors. They dont care about whats new/good. They want what sells, what department stores can play on their stereos without offending old ladies.

There are ridiculously talented bands playing right now that cant get a second on radio now which is dominated (here at least) by the bland inoffensive sound of bands like Foo Fighters and RHCP.

Liking this new stuff I'm hearing on the radio from Destroyer.

Not been aware of him/them before.

Fck yeah! Is it from the album Poison Season?

Also, they've gone of the boil recently (and quite spectacularly I might add) but Muse had 3 great albums last decade.

Muse - Absolution
Muse - Origins of Symmetry
Muse - Black Holes and Revelations

Midlake deserve a mention here. A couple of genuine classics on The Trials of Van Occupanther and I love the overall atmosphere of The Courage of Others (though, strictly speaking, that came out in 2010).

Moby - Play.
Moby - 18.

See, I bought the last one of those and just could not get into it.

I've just remembered Hot Chip as well - a couple of great singles but again no album I really fell for.

I don't think this will be as memorable as the 90s thread.

I always though The Strokes were bang average, that's right BANG! average.

The "era-defining" albums moved away from indie bands in the 00s as hip-hop took over, by which I mean College Drop Out and Late Registration, The Black Album, The Marashall Mathers LP.

There were some good albums by Kasabian, Artic Monkeys and The Libertines and the media were desperate for a second coming of "Britpop" but it never happened, not enough bands of sufficient quality IMO.

There was a cover of Observer Music Monthly around 2002-03 which featured Busted and The Sugar Babes with the tag line "The New Britpop", says it all really

Yeah, just looked it up.

That Dream Lover song is bloody great. Reminds me of good era Waterboys.

The Streets first album, and to an extent the second barely have one bad song on them

Both fantastic albums.

That's because manufactured bands were getting more attention and more airplay than real musicians.

Still are.

Always felt LCD Soundsystem were more a singles orientated group.
