Internet says around 20 years to build, so maybe around the end of Episode 3 Palps had this greenlit "to protect the senate" blah blah blah, which would tiein with the whole clone army too.

Then Abraham's was like how can we get people hyped for the first Disney film.. 🤔 I know..

BIGGEST DEATH STAR, oh wait, we need a different name, let's call it starkiller base, even though it doesn't kill stars.

So rolling out littlest death Star now seems a bit silly

Isn't it star killer as it draws its power from suns/stars maybe?

Imagine a lightsaber battle on the frames of the station.
Small ships flying in and out of the construction.

Be awesome.
But you’re right, JJ has totally killed that now.
I mean, Star Killer base should be lauded as one of the great feats of construction ever. And it’s just an afterthought. Crazy. And infuriating.

Apparently (I've never cared to look before)

It fires a "dark energy" called "Quintessence" that it stores in a "Thermal oscillator" and Is acquired using dark energy collectors on the far side of the planet.

Wow.... I mean it was built in to the planet who's core was made of kyber crystals that they used to make the weaponry of the proto, Death, and Death 2 stars.. did they need to make up all that craaaap?

It is also capable to wiping out entire star systems.

so can both destroy stars by charging and firing its weapon.

It doesn't destroy stars with its weapons, it destroys the planets in said system,

Also it doesn't absorb a stars power, at least according to the wiki, it absorbs the dark energy on the far side of the planet Ilum.

And the dark energy is called "Quintessence" which is a fackin stupid name.

Should have just used it's kyber crystal core.. that's what powered the death Star guns, and the planet starkiller is built in to, is made of the stuff.
