how about they just come out and say the new trilogy isnt cannon and grovel for the remainder of their lives
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It isn't canon for me.
The live action movies ended at ROTJ. The sequel trilogy is a different timeline.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well in just over 2 weeks, Kath Kennedy is gonna be in East London. I wonder if they’ll tell her to take the Elizabeth line from Heathrow, only 45 mins.
So we will get our first serious news at what is happening. Last Celebration they announced Patty Jenkins Rogue Squadron.
That worked out well eh...
Everyone needs to read the thrawn trilogy so get to it.

I couldn't stand how poorly Rey's character and story arc were constructed. There's absolutely nothing interesting about her as a character. If anything it does a massive disservice to the idea of a strong female lead character because she's so utterly one dimensional from start to end and has no character growth whatsoever. She starts off flawless and indestructible and ends up flawless and indestructible lol
Compare that to Luke's incredible journey from naive and slightly clueless farmboy to master Jedi Knight over three movies. Now that's a story arc and character growth/evolution.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think Rey had all the ingredients to be a great character. The execution failed her.
They could have built a great arc where they showed that you didn't need to have a special friend or lineage, to become something great.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I agree. Girl dumped on a planet as a kid, feeling abandoned, forced to fend for herself, doesn’t trust anyone - should have been the makings of a great character. I thought the chemistry with Finn was good as well. But wasn’t to be, writing failed her.
I tend to believe they always intended to bring the Emperor back. Or certainly had it in mind. I called after TFA that Rey was a Palpatine for a couple of reasons. Firstly her fighting style with the lightsaber was very similar to what he saw from Palpatine in RotS. Secondly SW loves a bit of symmetry - light side parents Kylo and dark side lineage of Rey. So I do think that was an early decision.
The ridiculous thing about the new trilogy is that fans would have accepted a load of stupid decisions if only they got the big ones right. Make Snoke the villain who wants Rey as his apprentice because he knows she’s a Palpatine and treat Luke’s character properly. That’s all they needed to do. For both of those errors you’ve got to look at Rian Johnson and whichever feckwits signed off on the script.!

Thinking about it i don't see them burning thrawn in Mando really. I think they will keep him in their back pocket for now.
Interesting Naby8… Always had Palpatine in mind? Hmm. It was so badly executed, it looks like they didn’t have a clue. With them now admitting they hadn’t planned the stories/arc… makes it hard for me to believe he was in mind.
But your theory makes sense…

I'm of the opinion that they had no plan whatsoever for the trilogy and just made it up from movie to movie. That might have just about worked if they hadn't handed the reigns to Rian Johnson who decided to butcher the second movie.
I'm not a big JJ fan but just keeping all three movies with him would have produced a much better result than the car crash it ended up being.

Perhaps having the Emperor in mind is an exaggeration but I certainly think they had it in mind that Rey was a Palpatine. Essentially someone from the Skywalker lineage fighting someone from the Palpatine lineage but with roles reversed.
If you watch the fighting styles, it's way too similar to be a coincidence - the stabbing action.
I'm not saying they had it all mapped out because clearly they didn't but Luke being tempted out of isolation to train a Palpatine to overcome his own family. I think that was the general premise. Then Rian Johnson and TLJ happened and burnt it all to the ground.
They could’ve gone with it still in RoS.
The moment the electricity came out of her, should’ve sealed the deal. Kill Chewier yes.
I know sacrilegious, but end the saga on a downer.

at the very least I believed Disney would want to continue the Episodic numbers. I’m losing hope as time goes, but you just bought Lucasfilm for 4 Billion.
Let’s create our own 6 Ep saga up to 12.
End Ep 9 with the rise of Rey.
Fine, you want to pass the torch from the classic characters, ok, you got 3 films there. Then Ep 10,11 & 12 would be the next Gen.
Now, I don’t know what they’ll do. But to never see, the big words of Episode X, and then the classic crawl again, is mind numbing.
