Most likely, the government told them about the deal they are planning, its a positive sign

Direct quotes from the beeb......

Business Secretary Greg Clark said there was "no question of financial compensation" for Nissan.

'A senior Nissan Europe executive, Colin Lawther, said the company had received "no special deal".'

But to hell with senior government officials and senior Nissan executives, if a hack from itv says we've promised them money then it must be true eh....

----------------------------------------------------------------------
That's not what ITV have said at all. They didn't mention direct financial compensation.

They've said Nissan wanted assurances around protection against tariffs, access to the single market and freedom of movement of labour.

So...

The economy grew by 0.5% in the quarter since the vote, despite experts telling us it would be an immediate recession.

A 2nd Japanese car manufacturer has commited to Britain since the vote, despite the scare stories about Brexit meaning companies would look to relocate to an EU country.

Which domino of Project Fear will be next?

No.....we were told there would be an immediate recession after the vote itself, not upon leaving

By the time those cars are rolling off the production line we will be either left or well down the road to leaving. Nissan have decided to actually INCREASE production here.

Toyota have stated they have no intention of going too

I may be wrong, but I think they said that production wouldn't start for four years?? We should be out by then.

Not sure what the argument is about. Brexit happened and is not going to change. The nature of the deal is still in question but as shown by Walloons all the 'big talk' from EU leaders is just that. Talk. Politicians always back down when put under pressure by the money men.

End of the day, May will talk tough and cave and come back with some sob story about protecting British jobs and the only thing that will change is that we won't pay into the EU and will lose out veto

I like the way you laugh my good man, you seem to have forgotten what happened with David Cameron.

Question for you; do you want access to the single market?

Do you believe it is in Britain's best interests to have access to it?

posted on 28/10/16

ManUtd what have we vetoed that has stopped EU changing for the worse?

I'm not laughing at that single paragraph as such. What I find funny is the no matter what bit of good news comes through, there are a couple of you on here who steadfastly refuse to acknowledge or even believe it. Try looking on the bright side for a change, rather than wishing for negative news just to make you right

Canada now have single access to the market. So in theory Nissan Canada can send a car made in Sunderland to the EU tariff free and declare profits in Nissan UK because of our low tax rates.

I can't believe the Government would agree to hand over a penny to Nissan, or any other car manufacturer, by means of a direct subsidy.

I would expect that they have made guarantees along the lines of:

- We are going to aim to stay in the single market, and as such, you can be assured we will try to ensure you will not be adversely impacted by tariffs

- If you are adversely impacted by tariffs, we will look at your tax obligation to compensate

- We will guarantee you are able to draw on the European labour pool as you see fit

Nissan's biggest concerns, as the company stated before and after the vote, were tariffs and free movement of labour. Both will have been addressed by the Government.

Well we vetoed the EUs tariffs on Chinese steel that destroyed our steel industry

Imagine, Britain putting China ahead of British steel workers

HRH, the only sector that grew in the last three months was the service sector, by 0.8%.

All other sectors declined - that includes primary industry agriculture and manufacturing. It's in the detail if you look past the headline.

Nissan have received some assurances, its on the back of those that they have made the announcement for 2 new models.

If that is retaining access to the single market - then it will be a very soft Brexit indeed.

It will be a soft Brexit, this will trigger a snap election as the Brexiteers will be raging

posted on 28/10/16

Not all Brexiters are racists rabidly wanting a hard Brexit. Likewise not all Remainers are 5th columnist Europhiles. There is plenty of ground in the middle.

If it is a soft Brexit, so be it. We will be out of the EU, and relatively free to broaden our horizons. Further down the line we can choose to stiffen up our Brexit safe in the knowledge we are already half-out.

There will be further elections in the future, and plenty of scope to change things

Yes unfortunately. All it needs is some clever accounting. Thats how globalisation works. And why I keep on stressing that TTIP will change the game entirely. Rather than companies moving out of the UK I expect to see companies coming the other way because of the tax ruling. Thats the game changer.

missed this comment.

So let me guess this straight..
Nissan U.K. makes a car and incurs the cost, the car is sold to the EU tariff free. The revenue is lodged in the U.K. for tax reasons..

But somehow it's Nissan Canada pulling the strings?

He said in theory, not that it was going to happen.

Doesn't take much to get you excited, does it?
