Canada now have single access to the market. So in theory Nissan Canada can send a car made in Sunderland to the EU tariff free and declare profits in Nissan UK because of our low tax rates

missed this comment.
So let me guess this straight..
Nissan U.K. makes a car and incurs the cost, the car is sold to the EU tariff free. The revenue is lodged in the U.K. for tax reasons..
But somehow it's Nissan Canada pulling the strings?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He said in theory, not that it was going to happen.
Doesn't take much to get you excited, does it?

There's not even much of a theory there!

I agree with mudd when he says if it is a soft brexit, a snap election will be held. I fully expect a tory rebellion headed by the likes of Gove if a soft brexit were to happen
Soft brexit is basically the same thing as before so it has to be a clean break and leave the single market

If you voted for Brexit I could understand why you would be angered by a soft Brexit were it to occur.
I mean what would be the point. We would be basically be left with the status quo, but have no say in the way Europe is run.
Of course workers rights would ultimately be undermined and the NHS would be sold off but hey, but the fact is Johnny Foreigner would still be the huge issue, which would have the hardliners in uproar.
I imagine the current government will probably have to pay more in subsidies to companies to persuade them to stay in this country, than they paid to the EU for access to the single market..

why would they be undermined? if we have a less bloated workforce then they become more valuable. At the moment we import people to work on zero hour contracts or be exploited for half the minimum wage because we have an unlimited supply from the EU willing to do it. so having controls will only improve working conditions.

Thus every single statement must be false? That's rather small minded, isn't it?
And I'm pretty sure there were numerous claims made by both sides that have turned out to be completely false.

Of course not. But we don't yet know, so can't just assume it's the case because it suits our side of the argument, can we?
Term
No, not saying it is. Just that I wouldn't be in the slightest bit surprised if it turns out not to be true. It's not like politicians think telling the electorate what they want to hear isn't acceptable in their eyes.
both sides before the vote were clear that leaving the EU meant leaving the single market
Sure that Nissan would want some assurances as regard to their investment in the Uk,any major player looking to increase their stake would, doesn't mean financial doping is necessary, just a safeguard for their investment.
Do people on this thread even realise that Nissan declare their profits (head quartered) in Switzerland? So much for the Euro and the single market.
Like they have to Nissan? Even though there are quotes from the government and Nissan executives stating there will be no payments?
--------
The quote from a government official is that the UK will be seeking tariff free trade for the automotive sector.
It follows then that the government will insulate Nissan (and presumably other auto manufacturers) if they don't reach this agreement with the EU.
Oh Jenius, here's a copy of Nissan UK's 2015 accounts, declared to companies house in the U.K. and in which profits are declared and tax thereon paid according the U.K. corporation tax.
What are you basing their declaration of profits to the Swiss exchequer on?

All I get is access denied. Pertinent I suspect. Though to be honest I don't have the energy to detail how multinationals avoid tax.
Do you know what assumptions used and how borrowings are distributed across subsidiaries? Multinationals often borrow at very low interest rates to reduce their tax bill. Let me warn you you would need to be a forensic accountant to know that information and would need to examine the profit and loss accounts for Nissan in multiple countries across the EU. The point is money is shifted from country to country to avoid tax. The fact that Nissan uses Switzerland for this purpose is not news. Its a well known tactic.
Just ask yourself. Why is Nissan's EU headquarters in Switzerland? Why did they move their top executives from France and England in 2007?
