I, like Batmanu have criticised Downing many times previously on BBC606 and in conversations with friends, i dont think he has the ability or mentality of a top class footballer.
He might be good enough for Liverpool but he's certainly not good enough to play for England IMHO.
Batmanu's stats show that despite being given plenty of chances Downing has never really grasped the opportunity given to him, 5 assists and no goals in 35 appearances is pretty shocking.
Its not an anti-Liverpool thing at all, your being far to paranoid and over-sensitive.

To be fair . Downing is a just one of whole host of average to good premier league players playing for England right now. Its not his fault he's getting picked for the right hand berth. He's the best of bad bunch ( Walcott, Milner, Lennon) As I said before. A good domestic player but not good enough for the international stage but then again, who is?
I agree with Albert and BatManU. When both were at Boro I always believed Adam Johnson was by far the better player, I can't tell you how much I wanted us to sign him at the time when Boro were asking for a mere £5m.
Downing without pace IMO is a below average player. He has good dribbling ability but cannot cross, cannot shoot well and his tactical awareness etc is not what a top footballers should be.
For what it's worth I actually think Martin Kelly will be a top player and should be first choice England Right Back so being anti-Liverpool has nothing to do with it, we all know a good player when we see one and Downing isn't a £20m player I don't care what the current inflation is in the transfer market

This is of course my opinion from other posts I have observed, I'm not trying to pass this off as fact. This is also what everyone else does on this FORUM, offer opinions based on what they have seen.
