The few times i have been to see Man United v Boro he has looked lightweight and inconsistent, not sure he could cut it at the top level

This is all paper talk, he's not really that good. And i don't get why Ramos' transfer targets are exactly the same as Jols. Seems like a slow news day story!

I sure as hell don't want him at Tottenham. If he was right footed he wouldn't even be playing in the Premiership.

He's not good enough for another club, certainly not a club that plays in the Champion's League... We've all seen how useless he is at international level. He's good at Boro but if he leaves I can definitely imagine it will start the decline of his career.

His valuation is ridiculous - surely Ramos can go round Europe find an equally descent winger in Downing's position and still have change out of his 8 or 10 million that he's going to spend - another example of an overpriced english player - 10 million no way!

stewart downing is one of the worst players to have ever been given an england cap!! his crosses arent consistant, hes not quick or strong and not good in the air........the only reason he got called up was because of maclaren!!

as for a 10 mill valuation??!!........take the zero off and wer're around the mark!!

For what it's worth I rate askdannyjeeves for the same reasons. However, Batman, Mr Chelsea and Albert Morgan are not fit to lace their fooking boots for the opposite reasons so get a life and do one.

They're only allowed to post on this article because it's been multi-boarded on to the England board

Any chance to have a pop though eh boys?

But they are fair criticisms of someone who, frustratingly, tried to palm off criticism of Downing as an anti-Liverpool agenda.

It's that sort of initial response that creates arguments imo.

Steven Gerrard's got a rap sheet as long as my arm (I've got long arms) but he gets nowhere the abuse that Frank Lampard gets. That's not even up for debate. Stevie Me gets a free ride while Frank gets it in the neck from all and sundry.

---------------

There's a pretty easy answer to that mr chelsea. Gerrard is a much better footballer so gets away with it.

It is anti Liverpool and as Ive stated this has gone on since the days of John Barnes. And for the record Ive not called anyone pathetic, childish or whatever. I dont have to stoop to that level to get my point across.

Then treat it as the anomaly that it is.

posted on 7/9/11

Still going on about anti-Liverpool even after I've posted comments of nobody rating him in his Boro days and Liverpool fans themselves calling him average at best.

So paranoid it is laughable

What a childish comment that is, pathetic.

People have different opinions, its the way of the world.

Honestly some Liverpool fans on this site need to grow up and take criticism better.

I've lost the thread on this one now, TBH.

IMO Knotty merely mentioned that Downing was getting slagged because he was a Liverpool player - you may or may not have always thought he was terrible, I don't know - but you've taken his comments as a direct attack on YOU, not just a general observation of the type of WUMming we get on here.

I think we should all kiss and make up, then slag off Theo Walcott...

You don't have a point.

You've been given evidence to prove that you're wrong, and yet don't have the maturity to admit it.

Your behaviour is childish. That's not stooping to any level, that's an opinion based on your absurd reaction to reasoned criticism of a Liverpool player.

Bring Back Rushies Moustache (U6045)

Knotty has made his point clear - any criticism of Downing is because he is a Liverpool player.

Furthermore, he made the ridiculous comment that 'it's a fact that if Downing played for Villa, he wouldn't get that criticism'.

People who make up statements and call them facts very rarely have a credible point.

posted on 7/9/11

So because someone has a different opinion to you theyre childish? And I havent been proven wrong either.

I dont think anyones slagging Downing off, i think we're just making our opinions known about his lack of ability when performing at the top level.

Slagging players off isn't my game, i'm not as immature as that.

Robbing Hoody, i also dont feel the need to 'slag off' other posters I dont really know anything about.

You have been proved wrong actually - I showed you criticism of Downing as an Aston Villa player, proving that his Liverpool connection is not the driving factor.

Hold the phones lads, I've got a scoop. Manager talks up his own player!!

Instead of posting me some quotes from managers, why don't you tell me what you really think of him. Tell me what he excels at? As I said he's a good goalscoring midfielder, but that is it. To some extent Chlesea are finding it difficult to fit him in the team because both are trying to move away the Mourinho-esque type of football that you've continued to play over the last 6 years whcih allows himto do nothing but support the striker. AVB will drop him sooner or later. I can gurantee you that AVB will not play him in the holding midfield role because's he's not good enough.

He's one dimensional in that he is only a goal scoring midfielder, and as he gets older and slower, and fatter, he won't even be good at that anymore. So what else does he bring to the table??
