Nope, I don't know you. I can only go off what you've u say on here. This is why I said the views you've expressed............
Why do you think I'm of the opinion you have a problem with refugees, immigrants and migrants coming to these shores for various reasons?
This also makes me laugh;
"When French Protestants, Jews and west Indian migrants came here,,nu here were small and mixing was mostly good"
Really? Do you not remember the racism during the 60's, 70's and 80's inflicted on the above people? You left off Indians and Pakistanis that came over here and experienced a warm racist British welcome.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
My own experience of the late 70's was not being able to go to the local park alone. As soon as you walked in a bunch of teens would walk straight over and start giving you grief. I got jumped by about 20 white lads I was 13. They were all 16+
At 16 I went to a college where for the first time I met many of my kind. Safety in numbers and all that and I started to fight back and then I was the problem
I have no animosity towards anyone, married to a white lass etc. However I still believe that the early immigrants were forced into ghettos and were always subservient preferring to walk away.
Later generations couldn't walk away and became a problem as they wouldn't just shut up and take it
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No one was forced to live anywhere!! People weren't dragged here kicking and screaming.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I actually was tbh.
However just because someone moves somewhere doesn't mean they should be attacked based on colour etc
Or are you justifying kids being beaten up?

You miss the point. Other countries are more open about learning other languages and using that to integrate at a later date. Spanish is spoken morearpund the world. Yet you don't see Spaniards coming over here shouting at us in Spanish. They speak English.
JS are you suggesting us Brits do integrate abroad?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why do people learn English? It is because it is THE common medium. When China became a player in the world, people thought everyone would need to speak a Chinese language. It didn't happen though, they got on board with speaking English.
To get on in the international market English is nearly a necessity, other languages are not. This is also pushed around the world in schools.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why do Germans learn French, Dutch as well as English etc. I'm not talking about for business purposes. I'm talking about moving abroad and integrating. Us Brits tend to move to Spain, being the biggest U.K. ex-pat community, and stick together, don't learn the language etc. We've got a reputation around the world for it.

Talking about culture, I've off to the pub in a minute.
I hear what youre saying but i think youre over egging the pudding, what specific cultural identities are we losing by accepting immigration? Seriously!
We're a multi cultural society and always have been, immigration has been good for the UK, since the war we've had our issues but we've dealt with them and we're a better place for it, I've travelled and lived in a few countries, the UK, bar the weather, is a fantastic place to live. Any problems we have politically are self manufactured by people hankering for the good old days, imo.
Sure we need to control who is coming in, but historically we have been a haven for exiles and dissidents, from Marx and Engels to Litvenenko.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm talking about culture, we've been too soft for too long and we're seeing the results now. Translators for 50+ languages in hospitals, councils, courts etc. instead of getting people to speak English, British humour poking fun at ourselves and each other deemed offensive to some groups, free speech replaced by political correctness and censorship. Segregated areas, no go zones, 100+ sharia law courts in the UK. immigration is good, we have mix of cultures who for the most part get on, food from all around the world etc. but we have to call out where it's not working.
There's synagogues, temples, mosques, all other places of worship all around the country, some of the strictest laws in the world to protect equality and freedom for everyone. All these liberal activists and self loathing protesters talking about fascism and how nasty we are, need to travel and realise we're one of the most tolerant and open places in the world.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I am Asian and worked as a interpreter/translator in the early 90's.
The main thing I learnt was that it wasn't people from other countries asking for this as even those without the language initially made their own arrangements where needed.
I worked in local government and it was white English speaking execs who wasted, yes wasted money on translating things into a million and one languages.
I got abuse for refusing to do this, by white English speaking execs. To satisfy them.I would just write "if you want this booklet/newsletter in your language please contact..."
I'm 15 years I had one request, surprise surprise by the wife of someone who ran the translating service.
It's absolutely ludicrous that someone like me who speaks a dew languages had to offer a translator to a person I could very well communicate with, just as I would with an English speaking person. I wasn't allowed to just speak to them in their language or explain anything. For me myblanguage abilities are a skill that was part of my work, but apparently not
Its the same with Indian customer services working for UK companies. I haven't a clue what some of them say so speak in their language and they continue in English as they can't speak in anynither language.
The point is the rules are not there because the immigrants wanted them
What's more funny is that a lot of the schools back in Asia etc teach in English anyway. I came to the UK as a 6 year old with better English reading skills than those around me but speaking was an issue for a short while. I didn't get no bilingual assistants etc and learnt quickly. Now kids are stopped from learning quickly with all the support, run by who?

Pathetic bullies mate, using race too.
Wrong, just wrong, like black and Asian attacks on whites!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You do this flip thing in your replies as in "like black and Asian attacks on whites" no one was justifying attacks but I want to take you up on this.
I was born abroad and to this day in that necknof the woods white people are almost revered not attacked. In fact UK was sold to me as a kid about justice fair play and freedoms. Reality was different. As I said went through some rough times getting beats and walking off school bus wet with spit
Almost naturally there came a point where had to stand and fight. As the Asian community grew so did confidence in that it was no longer 20 beating on 1.
The window smashing had to stop so staying up with friends in a car became normal as did the getting out of car and grabbing the guy who was about to chuck a brick through my house window. An attitude developed which wasn't good/nice but it was a defense mechanism. Walking through town and seeing a group of white lads automatically makes you tense when you grow up a certain way.
Fortunately grew out of that quick but noticed younger Asian kids doing to white kids what had been done to me as an Asian kid by white kids. Hated it and would gonout and "rescue" the white kids even had to physically fight a few of the Asian kids. Always got the whole "it's payback" line. Hate it and will always hate it and with kids today don't think there is any reason for it. But with my generation I can understand it tbh.
By the way my white Catholic/atheist in laws are coming so may not be able to reply

Mate I have seen first hand Brits in my country of origin and tbh bar the odd hippy type that is a conscious effort to show and keep all things British.
What I mean is, for example, clothing. Now people are obviously free to wear whatever they want but a suit and tie in blistering heat I never understood.
As a kid I would ask why not just wear the loose cotton clothing that locals wore to keep cool and the response was always "this is the done thing where I am from".
This isn't a criticism by the way because I say this to my father that our parents have made us more Asian than our relatives in Asia. They wanted a link to their roots ams feared their kids would forget where they came from so they made time to teach us. My uncles kids who never came here act more american etc due to TV etc than Americans I know

I worked in a posh hotel and they had a sign on every floor of the service elevators "italian is the language of love, french is the language of food, English is the language of business, learn it". Most of the staff were non native.
Brits are terrible at learn in languages, personally I think it's because we don't have the Latin masculine, feminine and polite grammar and because Americans movies are in english. If you want to integrate properly into a country be it Spain, France, UK or China you have to learn the lingo, you can get by without it but you miss out on so much.
Hector
Exactly my point. Makes me laugh when you see indignation about migrants integrating into our society.

agree it is down to government policy. not saying we shouldn't have translators but it shouldn't be seen as a solution. If people don't integrate and learn English it will lead to more social problems in the future.
Indian and Pakistani soldiers fought alongside us in world wars, settled here and done well for themselves. The next generation of Europeans will do the same, it's all good. Local Romanian and Turkish stores have better choice of foods than supermarkets, quality restaurants from all around the world.
We will become more multicultural with each generation as people have kids so there is no going back to 1950's Britain, but I believe in our freedom and free speech which is being slowly eroded, it might not seem like much but it's happening and unless we recognise it and change how we do things it will keep going in that direction.
Cultural hegemony should never be underestimated.
Walt Disney has a lot to answer for.
Fast forward 50 years. Will globalisation lead to a homogeneous world culture? What role for religion as we know it?
Will we lose diversity but gain mutual understanding and shared values. Will harmony reign?
Or will it go the other way? More division, greater entrenchment, xenophobia and chaos?
What about 'rogue' nations.
The cliff edge is looming.....

Nope, I don't know you. I can only go off what you've u say on here. This is why I said the views you've expressed............
Why do you think I'm of the opinion you have a problem with refugees, immigrants and migrants coming to these shores for various reasons?
This also makes me laugh;
Later generations couldn't walk away and became a problem as they wouldn't just shut up and take it
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Pathetic bullies mate, using race too.

Exactly my point. Makes me laugh when you see indignation about migrants integrating into our society.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
agree it is down to government policy. not saying we shouldn't have translators but it shouldn't be seen as a solution.
