Eva Cassidy & Dusty Springfield deserve a mention.

best Male has to be Robert Plant

Forgot all about Eva Cassidy.

Such a pure and haunting voice.

If I had to pick one it'd be between Cat Stevens and Otis Redding. There's something about each of their voices that hits me everytime.

The only song of Yusef I know is Wild World, brilliant song mind. I may take some time out to listen to some of his stuff.

Swear to God there's a Porter who works in the hospital I'm based at who is the spitting image of him. Had to do a double take the first time I saw him

I know it's all about opinions but Chrissie Hynde? Greatest ever vocalist? I can't have that.

Karen Carpenter and Annie Haslam, wow! Good choices.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I doubt if many people know who Annie is.

I first saw her band when they were the support act to Wishbone Ash, back in the day

Can't disagree with most mentioned-another singer I always thought had a fantastic and unique voice was Seal.

Not a seal. But Seal. Big coloured chappy. Married a supermodel. Didn't perform tricks with fish at the zoo.

A couple of obscure rock singers i really rate are ray gillen (rip) and jonah matranga, both have huge but pretty soulful voices. Of the famous ones Freddie mercury for me, closely followed by bob plant. Otis redding is my favourite outside my usual genres, and terence trent darby has some voice, but i suspect he went slightly loopy over the years..
