Tbab, come on, give it a bit of thought. You seem like a sensible chap, perhaps a bit right of centre- which Isla your prerogative, I make no bones about it now. But in gods honest name, you’d have to be on some strong, mind altering stuff to think trump is doing a good job, or in any way actually has American interests at heart. I’m not even sure he realises he’s a president..anyway..to the point: no one here hates America, I think most will tell you it’s a great place with for the most part decent people. What people do have issues with is the idiocy that runs rampant over there, from the Gov down, people see it from outside, and just can’t believe the utter stupidity in some things.

I largely agree with that.

America is as messed up as the rest of the world, and I do not say America is always right, and I do not like Trump!

Big business, corporations, arms industry, foreign policy, racial unrest,,slavery, opioid addiction, gang and gun culture to name a few.

I see certain comments openly stereotyping All America and All Americans, mostly from shall we say Corbynista and pretend liberal progressives...who are quite intolerant of others.

America is basically Europeans over the ocean, or the Americans the left are targeting anyway. Now we hear some on the left saying America should keep their nose out of other countries, Yet they lecture Murica all the time, insult the country, the people, the culture etc etc.

We hear this is due to US size and power, but when was China the focus of leftist wrath.....few civil rights there?
Russia is only brought up if Russia can be linked to Trump and brexit,, yet Russian world influence is massive..look at the middle east, or London😉

India will pass the UK as a global power soon, so I look forward to the leftist analysis on All aspects of life in India, as some do with America!

I mentioned the number of guns in Canada, yet fewer shootings there....and in Switzerland guns and military training are just a way of life, yet we do not see school shootings etc there.

There is clearly something wrong with American gun culture and mental health problems for many males there, as women do not kill kids like this...another issue!

I would if I could ban guns, apart from certainty cops and soldiers, i would, but that will not happen in America.Mocking them,,shouting at them etc may virtue signal others, but were you ever persuaded to change your view by someone abusing you verbally?

I mentioned the southern US neighbour of Mexico on purpose as their gun culture, drug gangs and murder rates are insane....and Mexican gangs help spread death from drugs and guns into Murica.Massive problem,,yet I was scolded for mentioning mexico, As Murica is a bigger talking point for us all?

This is some of what I find weird, and I say this as an anti-gun guy who Knows all about the dark side of America.

I know what you mean, tbab….whenever British news covers the US presidential inauguration, I’m always left wondering why I can’t see the Indian presidential inauguration instead. Or the Mexican,Chinese, or Mongolian.

I’m not sure the cultural bias towards covering US news has anything to do with hatred of the US. You think the media covers news of the Dow Jones because we hate them?

How do you know they are Corbynistas or pretend liberal progressives? Do they say they are?

I’m not sure what your point is, here. How do you define them? If it’s by criticism of Trump or the gun laws, that would appear to include you. Who, on this thread, has identified themselves as a Corbynista?

Obsessing about America.

Whatever floats your boat!

Not sure if some look at America through jealous, hateful or patronizing eyes?

Possibly a mixture of all of these, with a little inferiority meets superiority complex.

Our cousins across the ocean listen and learn from our wisdom, because we are better people....right?

Read my reply to Baz, BTW👍

China, India and Russia are worth watching too!

Just a thought, as there is more to global political, military and economic power than America.

India, China and Russia do not hold themselves to the same standards that the US or Europe does.
They do not have the same open societies or rights as we do. Its a false comparison.

We criticise our government's and our societies because we're allowed to, its who we are and the values we hold ourselves to.

America is in crisis right now, its leadership is in melt down, the current president doesnt respect his office, its institutions nor a vast swathe of its citizens. Hating Trump doesn't mean hating America, their two completely different entities.

There may be a lot of things wrong with India from a social standpoint, but it's still a democracy - world's biggest - and at least they put public health interests above those of big pharma's.

That said, Trump's presidency might indirectly and involuntarily help to correct some of the flaws in U.S. politics. There's a movement starting amongst Congresspeople to formally refuse all funding from corporate lobbies.

I suppose the chancesof it catching on are extremely thin, but it could spell a good chance if people really want to make their politicians accountable.

Bottom line is that the U.S. does have a strong democracy if the people actually get to the point where they really stand up for their rights, but it can only happen if there's the people truly believe in their rights and translate that into action.

The same is true to an extent of the UK, there's just too much apathy and individual greed for things to happen.

Apparently the White House security checks are very stringent, that they speak to nearly everybody that knows you, the FBIs worst fear is that you can be blackmailed into revealing secrets.
The fact Kushner has been coasting on temporary status until now but has his security clearance downgraded now is pretty damning imo.
This is Trumps guy for policy in the middle east and china, not being trusted is a slap in the face for his administration. Pretty shocking stuff.

Against the current backdrop of this administration, you're right it’s not a “big deal”

In normal times, if over 100 Whitehouse aides, (including the POTUS’ son in law - JK) had been granted full security clearance, without first being subject to background checks, then of course due diligence would be called into question.

But these are not ‘normal’ times in US politics.

It's not just JK though. NBC reporting there's around 130 staff with temp security clearances who have yet to be fully vetted.

posted on 28/2/18

more of a clear up job after the porter domestic abuse stuff. its not come out the blue, Kelly said they would become stricter.

the NBC story of 130 came from a report they found, 47 of the 130 report directly to trump and they had no clue how many actually had been granted security clearance since the report was made.

They have been trying to go through the process, thats the problem, thats why he's been downgraded. potential threat to national security.
The FBI are terrified of WH staff being blackmailed, Kushner won't give them the info they want.

they have been trying to make it look like they are trying, the entire form was basically "mistakes".

i'm sure he will manage fine with "secret" information as opposed to "top secret"

Was reading the NSA were asked in light of the Russian cyber-attacks / disinformation campaign prior, during, and after the 2016 elections, what measures had the Whitehouse offered to prevent future attacks. None..

Despite having a majority in both houses, who universally backed increased sanctions on Russia, Trump refused to implement. Why?

posted on 28/2/18

well they said it would affect already standing long term deals negatively and it they think it will deter other countries from Russia. Overall i cant be sure as my temporary security clearance was revoked.
