Yes that is what astounded me. Well maybe astounded is a strong word, but it is a big one.

I always said I was atheist growing up, simply because I didn't know about the term agnostic. Which if im correct means you effectively abstain and sit on the fence through lack of knowledge.

Does a god just mean a creator?

If so, I'm certainly opening the door to the idea. Maybe a first for one of these threads, someone admitting to a change of views?

On the flipside, if the Earth has been around 4.5 billion years, qnd the Universe an infinite amount of years, the chance of all them things to aligning to create life becomes increased.

Infinite typewriters and all that.

But yes, KFC, the short answer is, I'm open to suggestions

But I also say the creator can't have been all loving, qll forgiving, there's just too many evil idiots.

And a god asking all his creations to pray to him for forgiveness, or security, is a tough pill to swallow.

But listen, I am totally uneducated on this, clearly. So will never say: you're right, you're wrong.

You have done your religion proud KFC. I'd be interested to see how the discussion with ioag goes, as it's stuff like that I have grown up hearing, in the news, in the pub. So, slightly ashamedly, maybe 5 or 6 years ago, maybe more, but mainly before I started reading on hereI was a brainwashed westernerits not really funny.

I was never racist and am tolerant of other religions. I went to a Private school in Blackburn which had a much greater portion of Ethnics or ethnic descendants than my hometown schools. And im talking two chinese kids in my whole primary school(a brother and sister) compared to maybe 50% of the whole schoolm so was immersed into it, made some good friends and learned to appreciate others more. I think it would be a good practice for everyone.

The 10 hour school days got the better of me after 3 years and I lost contact with most from that school. Which is a shame.

There were a couple of Asian lads whose Dad had corner shops and they got me some excellent fireworks at a good price, (we were only 14 at the time). They also taught me a few things about religion and how they had to prey, which I thought was harsh, as I hated church (it was boring at best, and I was forced to be confirmed which goes against the whole concept of being confirmed) so having to pray every day(instead of every Sunday) seemed harsh to me, but I just presumed it was like church. Like I said, I was and still am, uneducated about this.

Does God just mean creator? As opposed to what mate, were you thinking he looked and acted primarily like what is described in the Bible?

In Islam God isn't a man, God is genderless and he begets not, nor is He begotten.

Why has God told us to pray to him? This is a question in part answered once you actually pray. It's easy to think that God is egotistical to tell humans to worship him but his Islamic theology Allah doesn't need prayer.

It humans who need prayer, it doesn't feed Gods ego because he doesn't have one. It does quite the opposite and erodes human ego. Islamic prayer is humbling and therapeutic.

The prayers in Arabic are like poetry and rhythmic, the feeling you have after prayer feels more like you've been meditating.

Prayer is beneficial for the believer not God.

This maybe why you'll hear less complaints from Muslim kids about prayer and plus all the prayers through out the day take around 20 minutes to complete altogether so your are hardly giving up much time.

A unique aspect of Islam is that we have the Hadith which are catalogued narrations about the Prophets life and how he practised the revelations.

He is the authority we use to understand the Quran.

Muslims are also supposed to have a Caliph to preside over us. A Caliph being the successor to the Prophet who holds religious authority.

We don't have a Caliph and our government has said trying to united all the majority Muslim countries into a Caliphate is extremist.

So now all we have left is thousands of scholars with different agendas and Muslim leaders installed by western governments who don't care about religion at all.... but that's a different story.
