that was a great match

i really feel for the serbs though

they're my 2nd team after spain

just like red star belgrade are my 2nd team after r madrid

to lose like that to goals from a pair of kosovo albanians must really hurt

i've liked red star since the season they won the european cup in '91

i've had sympathy's for serbia since the balkan wars in the 90s...in which they lost so much, and were portrayed almost exclusively as the bad guys by the west

I wanted Serbia to win to stop Brazil qfing as first for Englands chances - yet as a nation I don't care for them.

The Kosovo thing is quite shocking really. VERY happy both Xhaka and Shaqiri scored.

Ripped his shirt off and tensed all his muscles after he scored

That goal meant a lot to him, firstly because he scored the winning goal that would probably send the Swiss to the knockout stage and secondly, because of who the opponents were, him being Albanian....

Ethnic cleansing is abonimable and inexcusable, but history is rarely straightforward. In the case of Kosovo, Serbia, Albanian and the Balkans in general, it's a fackin' mess.

Yeah, but I err on the side of the Kosovians (is that the right word) in the instance of the war.

Kosovars.

Tbf, there's an argument to say they started the war.

NATO illegally bombed Belgrade in their support of the Kosovan Albanians

The Albanians claim to be "autochthonous" yet they were classed as 2nd class citizens by the Serbs. SAso, the Serbs have a history of causing trouble in the region. In fact they were the main cause of the WW1

The fact that those areas are so heavily Muslim I find surprising as well, considering there is no obvious connection with the heavy Catholic influence around it

Kosovan converted to Muslim during the Ottoman conquest. The same thing happened to Bosnia as well

Albania and Bosnia are majority Muslim iirc.

The entire Balkans were part of the Ottoman Empire for centuries. Dunno if the Muslims there were converts or immigrants from other Turkish domains.

Serbs are mostly Orthodox I think, Croats are Catholics.

the fact you clearly know nuffin' about the Ottoman Empire and it's extent and influence in SE Europe, makes most of your views on Kosovo null n void young man

The Albanian Muslims are not of Turkish descent either

True. Reason being the Byzantine empire whose main religion was Orthodox. Croats were under the influence of Rome hence the Catholic influence

Also the Ottoman empire was more than just those few countries. Yet Greece, Bulgaria etc are mainly Catholic.

Orthodox Edin. There is a difference between Catholic and Orthodox
